Oh oh, this lot makes my PC an antique .....

2.6 P4, 9800 Pro AGP 4X, 1 GB Ram, 120 ATA HD, MS Mouse.

However the worst point for me is my broadband is only 256K Upstream. ( 2MB Downstream) I'm convinced this is why I'm sooooo bad in Halo !! ;-)

There is nothing, absolutely nothing, wrong with your upload speed. I have 256K now, and that is moooore than enough for online games. I used to have only 128 and it was still more than enough.

Upload speed and ping have nothing to do with eachother. I know guys with dial-up that have better pings than guys with broadband.

Your upload determines how many packets at the same time can leave your pc. Your ping is how long the packets have to travel to reach their destination. Of course, a high upload is less likely to have a high ping, but the word "likely" is very important there.

My machine is..

Asus a8n-sli premium
Sandy core 3700+ @ 2.6ghz (with zalman super flower @ 25C)
1gb Corsair TwinX cas2 ram
Palit 6800GS super 512mb (<- this is ace, runs at 7800GT framerates for £50 less)
Hiper 580w type-R modular PSU (this is also ace, dirt cheap aswell)
160GB Maxtor diamondmax plus 10 SATA2 HDD
random oem DVD-ROM
random oem DVD±RW

all nicely complemented by a saitek eclipse keyboard, and an MX518 in early april.

And to top all that off, i've got myself some lovely 5.1 medusa headphones. They're just godlike.

goes like stink, cheap as chips (well, nearly).

Upload speed and ping have nothing to do with eachother.

While that is technically correct, it's wrong. What you see in-game ins't your ping, unless you actually use the "ping" command, what you see is your in-game latency, which takes into account lots of things, like pakcet loss, network choke, system speed and connection speed. All of the above are affected by upload speed, so "ping" as most people think of it, is heavily affected by upload speed.

I got two new computers, I won't be doing any gaming at all on them but I thought I'd post the specs:
1.5 Ghz PowerPC G4 processor
64MB 4x AGP Radeon 9200
1GB of PC3200 RAM
80GB 5400 RPM HD.

It plays halo on lowest settings (except particles at highest and texture medium) at approximately 30-55 fps.
