when i heard bungie was teaming up with activision, i was as suprised as everyone, but i wasnt really woried. i think it was terrible timing with the whole call of duty problem just a few weeks before it was announced. I thought activision learned its leason and wouldnt interfere with bungie like it did with infinity ward, and with them hireing 300 more people and teaming up with blizzard, i AM confident that this wont be a problem.
my problem is this, activision NEEDS bungie more then ever right now, but bungie may not need them. Activision has slowly lost nealy all of its major franchises. it is now almost fully dependent on 2 games, world of warcraft and the yearly call of duty.
now the real problem is EA and activisions overdependence on these 2 games. EA now has nearly every other, non independent game and developers with them. the problem with this is bungie made a 10 year contract and im not sure activision will be on top that long. these next few years will be the turning point, first is the explosive battle between battlefield and call of duty, i personally like battlefield much better. i hope battlefield will win this battle, although with the amount of little kids who know nothing other then cod, its doubtful. i believe it will though cod off balance though, and it will definitly draw fans of other lower popularity shooters like fans of homefront, crysis and (this is not lower popularity) halo. i think it will make battlefield strong enough to knock cod off its throne at its next release.
but lets say it does better then expected and pulls ahead of cod, ea and many others are creating alot more mmo's of all types. rift was released which weakend wow considerably, and with star wars the old republic coming soon as well as new types like mmofps's like planetside 2.what would hapan if both of activisions top games were no longer selling enough. which is why activision needs bungie to create another hit game, just to be sure they stay in buisness.
this is why im torn, on one hand most of my favorite games are EA like mass effect and battlefield, but my favorite developer is now activision, which meens if battlefield is sucksessful like i hope it is, bungie will suffer too. i hope for bungies sake that there next game is a huge hit, and will last for the next 10 years. good luck bungie, i just want you to know that activision needs you more then you need them. i may not have every detail, but based on what i see, there could be some hard times ahead. please give your opinion, im not an economist so if anyone sees this differently, let me know.
