Gameplay is not canon. I'm also confident that sentinels can successfully combat the flood because if the Foreruners built them to combat the galaxy's most terrifying enemy, then I'm sure they were effective.
So you're saying gameplay is completely non-canon?? If Bungie put that many sentinels in the warthog run, its because there were that many sentinels there according to canon (and Bungie made canon at the time).and just because the forerunners built something for a purpose, doesn't necessarily mean that the built thing will carry it out effectively.
The forerunners built ships, fighters, fortresses and had sentinels on installations but did they ever halt the flood? No they did not, which is why they activated the rings.1.) That's exactly what I'm saying. Look at ODST, there is no way Buck's squad could have gotten past the Covenant outpost on the surface after finding the Rookie, Dare, and Vergil.
2.) The Sentinals are Halo's primary defense, they don't fly around the Galaxy hunting down Flood.
3.) Halo's Sentinals can harass entire Fortress class vessels, which are 100km In length
