Subject: why did bungie sell the halo franshise

I think getting rid of Halo was more like shedding skin for a new day. The Activision deal is the fun part of the 'why' in my mind. I'd have liked to be there when those ideas were cracking. Couldn't be happier to see Bungie jump without a cord.

In the beginning, halo was going to be a horrible-looking computer game, and would of failed miserably. So, they sold the IP to Microsoft, and were hired to create the game, and the next one, and the next one. Soon enough, however, some problems occured, and bungie and microsoft split. Bungie was aloud to finish up on ODST and Halo:Reach, but after that, no more making halo games. Instead, a new company was created from previous bungie employees that agreed to Microsoft's demands, which are now working on the new halo. So, does that answer your question?

IGNITION246, what you've just posted is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I lol'd so hard.

Looking for a group of people to play customs with.

They didn't want it to be like a Call of Duty franchise, too much of the same thing.

One day... maybe one day.
OT: As for why Bungie 'sold' Halo, I speculate that they had originally... WAIT Watch the ViDoc. I'm pretty sure I remember that they explained it in there.
(I would tell you, but I don't remember 100%.)

Someone award Urk a medal for epic winning.

OK, first off...

1) Horrible looking? Dude, that was back in 2001. What were you expecting?

2) If it was going to sell horribly, it would probably just be because it was going to be on the Mac, not because it sucked. Bungie's made great, if underrated, games, and I think that their RTS Halo would have done pretty well.

3) Yes, problems occurred. It's called BUNGIE DIDN'T WANT TO KEEP MAKING HALO. Seriously, I think a lot of people are missing the point that...

3a) The reason Master Chief weren't in subsequent Halo titles aside from cameos is that his story arc is done. Finished. Ended. Halo 3 is to the Halo series what Deathly Hallows was to the Harry Potter series. It leaves things wrapped up, with some ambiguity to leave people speculating, but otherwise leaves no room for a sequel. Bungie put his story to rest, which is why the other Halo titles didn't include him.

4) 343i is made up of former Bungie employees and other people who wanted to continue making Halo. The majority of Bungie wanted to make something else, which is why Bungie is Bungie and 343i is 343i.

And I still don't understand what people have against the Halo titles after 3. imo, I agree that ODST was overpriced for what was a small Campaign expansion and Firefight, but at $30 it's a good enough buy. Reach was also very good, and while I do agree that there are a lot of plot canyons in it, especially regarding some things in the Halo novels and whatnot, it's still a solid game (Bloom is not that bad).

1. So they could be an independent company and not be with Microsoft. So they gave Halo to them so they could be there own independent company.

2. I would assume they probably got sort-of tired from 10 years of making games in the "Halo Franchise."

Don't worry, Bungie will still be very successful and they'll make more profits then ever! I guarantee it! One reason, is cause they've made awesome games ever since they became a company! *Bungie supporter fo' life!*

why on earth did bungie sell the halo franchise. it was makeing way to much money so why would they sell it? please enlighten me

Watch and learn.

We didn't sell Halo. Bungie was acquired by Microsoft before Halo: CE launched. If we could have become independent and kept Halo, we would have. For some reason, Microsoft didn't want to give it up.

Wow, this actually made me sad. The fact that you guys couldn't keep halo sucks.

I realized the other day that if you take the number 343 (base 10) and convert it to base 7(Bungie's lucky number) it becomes 666. 343 industries bears the mark of the beast... Of course this means the monitor also bears the mark of the beast.
Haha, Bungie and their Biblical refrences.

  • 09.12.2011 1:38 PM PDT

LOL I doubt that was intentional.

No, it is also 7 cubed, and I imagine that it would be more in reference to that. I just thought it was funny.

Yeah so why DID Bungie sell Halo? Last I heard he was still a cool guy who didn't afraid of anything. Apparently this changed.

I know that if I could be anyone, I would definitely be Halo.
