Subject: Have Bungie Ever Considered Becoming a Public Company?

We were somewhere around Barstow...

It's a private company right now isn't it? Just wondering if it's ever been considered or even proposed. There would be no shortage of potential shareholders anyway.

Then they would have to cater to stockholders and that's no fun. Its a chore just to have to cater to Urk's many demands, but stockholders? Oh lord.

"I have a 0.5% share of Bungie and I WANT DLC ARMOR NAO."

...No, I think they are quite fine with being employee owned.

As much as you say that bungie's a big company. Big companies have valuable stock, and something tells me 12 years olds don't have all that much money to spend on the market.

The public ruins everything.

They will not take my Bungie.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

If someone bought enough stock, they could have some control in the company.

That is not a good thing.

Or the ability to buy it.

Not only no...

Hell NO!

Why do you want to ruin Bungie by opening it to the public!

Look at the people who the Public elect to Congress.

Do you really want those same old, rich, asshats running/having a say in Bungie and what games they make?

Bungie is doing perfectly fine as an employee-owned company. They don't need to be on the NASDAQ.

You have no idea how revolting I can be.

DeeJ's Challenge

Would it be available in the Bungie Store?

OT: Employee owned is the best thing for them as they somehow know what it is that we want without us actually knowing what it is.

  • 08.20.2011 7:17 PM PDT

I'm just here to check the meters.

If Bungie did that then they would just get bought up by some giant like EA and the Bungie we know would be gone forever.

Only after we ban Bricypoo.

I'd buy a Bungie Stock! Then I would force them to give me a tour since I own part of the company!

I can't wait to check out the pervert corner in their bathroom!

If Bungie makes stocks available, I'll buy them all.

Betty White for President!

Valve is far more likely to be a public company in the next twenty years--minding they get the whole "valve time" sorted out (that simply will not do within the paradigm of a public corporation).

Bungie is still a development company. It has no diversified assets, god willing, we're beyond the days of Westwood--so they won't be gobbled up.

Besides, if you've followed Bungie through the years you'd know they have a certain distaste for the 'suits' and the company culture is one that is completely opposite to that of a feasible public corporation...if Microsoft couldn't "assimi" the Bungie team, I highly doubt anyone else could.

For those looking to vent, get proper advice, or give it to those in need.

It wouldn't make much sense.

A distaste for "suits" is hardly a bar to going public. Look at Google and Facebook, and a hundred other public tech companies.

The real reason Bungie isn't likely to do this is because the only reason to go public -- thus taking all of the profits out of the hands of the employee/owners and putting it into the hands of public investors -- is to raise massive amounts of cash. I hardly think Bungie needs that kind of capital, considering they made enough money in the last ten years to move offices 3 times, grow their ranks by hundreds of highly-qualified employees at the top of their game, start multiple new subsidiary/offshoot companies and ventures, and buy back their company from Microsoft.

Considering Bungie has always been sort of a "one really great project at a time" kind of company, and has been quite successful and profitable at this, I don't think it'll be going the EA route anytime soon.
