In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

It seems like most of Bungie's franchises have been sold.

Marathon- source file is open to everyone, gotten for free now.

Myth series- sold to another company.

Oni- Sold to rock star :'(

Halo- Sold to M$

Do you think that history will repeat itself?

I am glad Bungie is working with activision so hopefully they don't have to worry about having to give away another franchise.

What do you think?

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

That's something we won't have to worry or care about for well over a decade.

Whoo.

Releasing the source code of a few games isn't the same thing as giving away a franchise.

And the rest of them were given away so Bungie could gain their independence, so they could make whatever games they want and so they could have full control of the franchises they create/work on.

The history aside, I can't wait to see what Bungie has in store for us next!

Bungie doesn't want to make the same -blam!- over and over again, dude. And isn't it a good thing that Marathon is open to everyone? So they can all enjoy it?

Why would they sell their new title? Its going on a next gen console, they have no reason to ever get rid of it unless Activision sues for intellectual property rights or some bull-blam!- like that. And I doubt they will.

And they have a 10 year deal with Activision. The last time they worked on something for 10 years it was while they were under the tyrannical rule of Micro$oft ( I kid of course ). And they would have kept it if Micro$oft had not wanted to keep it for themselves (an obvious decision on M$'s part). So why would they get rid of it?

Why does it really matter? If you're done with something then why not give it away?

PAX 08, Third Team against Luke and Shishka, AR dual to

urk: "This is a bad idea."
DeeJ: "Hold still..."

I don't see why this would be something to worry about or even anything to discuss, but since its here.
No, and I honestly don't care what happens, no game industry holds on to EVERY game they've ever made.

And who refers to Microsoft as M$ anymore? Completely childish.

I dont see them selling anything to activision.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Don't they still have GNOP and Pathways as their claims to fame? I suppose you wouldn't count at least GNOP since you said Marathon being open sourced made it "not theirs".

Honestly though, I would happily settle from some more Letters From the Webmaster or Soul interaction.

Pretty much this. Are they going to make Halo anymore? No. Do people still like Halo? Yes.

There you go. Not a big deal.

Bungie never owned halo, thus they cannot sell it.

There is no rule against making threads.

You are lucky I don't make 7 threads a day on here, at once.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing.

  • 08.20.2011 4:43 PM PDT

It isn't like the rights to Marathon were sold. Bungie could make a new one any time that they wanted to.

I feel Bungie will try to hold onto Destiny and future IPs, that's why they got a deal where Activision only publishes their games and has no say in how to make them.

Bungie no longer has a big old puppet master controlling their stings. I doubt Bungie would sell their new IP in the future like Halo.
