Whoo.

Out of all the links you posted I'd say the "Make you d'awww" thread is in third place in the "Least discussion value" competition.

Key

I think, just to add to the fire. That this thread is a non discussion thread.

The OP is making senseless arguments and even when a Mod came in, he didn't stop. Something needs to be done about this guy. Maybe a ban. Idk. Not gonna tell the ninjas how to do their job. And the OP got their answer already, thats the thing. Oh well.

DUDE, The mods aren't omnipotent, they can't be everywhere at once. Jesus Christ.

Anyway, "Discussion value" is a very subjective term and even in the scenario where it was not the ninjas are not all knowing beings, they can't cover the whole of every forum all the time.

Hell, they don't even have to, the ninjas just go where they want to go and if they see anything that they deem incorrect they take action against it, besides the report queue there isn't anything that states they need to go somewhere where they wouldn't normally go, check every thread, moderate EVERYTHING possible.

I'm not saying they are. Some of the threads I posted have locked threads on the same page.

So you are saying some forums should be left unmoderated?

Well...THAT surely doesn't have a chance to end badly.

So? A mod locks a thread, does that now mean he/she needs to look through ALL the threads in that forum to see if they require locking also?

Not to mention that not everyone has the same definition of "the rules", each situation is treated by a case to case basis.

How the hell did you get that from that?
I'm saying the moderators aren't machines, they can't be everywhere all the time and neither should that be expected of them.

Some obviously lacked discussion value and other threads had been locked around them. As if a ninja was on the page and just ignored it.

yoo•zel- ('yoo-zhul): slang: vb.

Officium quod Fidelitas.

I'm going to say that what you expect from moderators is nearly impossible. We don't read every response, we don't read every topic, we aren't around every minute of every single day. If you find something that is blatantly against the rules then report it or message a ninja.

We tried to define what is always against the rules, it did not work. Moderators have been chosen and given trust to exercise their best judgment when moderating by the web team. We make the calls in the field as best per our experience, directives and do the best we can with the time we have to spare.

So you're saying there isn't the possibility that the moderator within that forum didn't go into that thread? Or that perhaps he/she has a different definition of what "Discussion value" is than you do?

yeah, we just have to report and let them get em. or pm the ninja you see on with it. Ya don't make threads about it. rules are a bummer. I feel like the community gets their vote and should be using it. I suppose none of them have discussion value. I use my ignore button.

Just because we have the report button doesn't mean everyone seems to know how to use it.

That's the fault of the forum goers, not the moderators.

They can still check in to make sure everything is going well.

They do check in, they just check in where they would normally check, asking them to do otherwise is like asking them to check through every thread and post as it happens. It's unrealistic.

And I know what you're gonna say, "It's not unrealistic, all he/she has to do is just look at the forum for a sec", but see that's not what a mod would have to do to properly moderate a forum he/she is visiting, if he/she just stops by and looks around threads that should be locked could easily be overlooked and then threads like this appear, to do what you're suggesting the moderators would have to check every thread every second of the day and see every post exactly when it was posted.

And that's just unrealistic, not to mention far too much to ask for from volunteers.

"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.

I was a finalist :P

Moderators cannot check every thread and post when they are online. So their trust is passed on to us to determine if threads are reportable or not.
