I think a problem with some of the members here is the need to reply to off-topic posts. Personally its almost as bad as making an offtopic post because you are keeping it on top. I think the correct way to do it is to report it to stosh or shishka, and if you really feel the need message the user who posted it and tell them which forum is for what, because chances are they don't know.

I completely agree.
It's sometimes hard not to reply to someone's inane take on a topic, but it's better in the end if you leave their thread untouched and go on to post something thoughtful or helpful in an on-topic forum thread.

bah

I agree that continuing an off-topic thread is bad, but if this topic is brand new and still on the front page, it won't hurt to flag it as off-topic so no one else replies.

Yeah, especially on the Septagon. If somebody posts an off-topic thread here it doesn't hurt to just say "This should be on the Underground."

I don't find it really necessary on the Underground.

Thank god, you people don't mind that, since i'm always the guy who says that.
Anyway, an occasional off-topic isn't that bad, and if someone replies to that, than that's sort of ok,we just have to be sure it doesn't get too out off hand/off topic.

Well, they've got to know when they've made a post on the wrong board.

I agree with all this, and most of the time I comply. But sometimes it is so damn funny and embarrasing, I cant resist. ;)

THe biggest problem is people who still feel the need to tell them its off topic, even if some one has already responded saying that its off topic. It dosen't take two people to tell some one that.

bah

I agree that telling someone twice is completely unnecessary, unless that second person is a mod telling them why the post was locked.

Or if two people told the person that the topic was on the wrong board at the same time.
