Does anybody play it?

I started playing System link on my xbox about a week ago and it is quite fun.

There is a Website is called : Xlink Kai

The program is FREE to use since it does not require Xbox Live.

For those who wish to attempt playing System Link.

first off ; there's three things I should let you know about before you continue on any further.

1:) I will not tolerate any flamers/trolls in this thread.

2:) I am Captain Obvious.

3:) DANGER!: there is a "Great Wall of China" you are about to read. And it's coming your way.

Below is all the steps required to play Xlink:

Step 1:) All the items you need are :

- an eithernet cable

- an Xbox360 Or Xbox.(either one is fine.)

- Computer with router and/or modem. (internet provider required)

- a copy of a Halo 2 Disc

Note: If you happen to have purchased a Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack Disk, you still need an original copy of the Halo 2
disc to update the game and to play it on.

Also: The Multiplayer Map Pack Disc is not required. so don't frett.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: FOR THOSE WHO ACTUALLY THOUGHT THEIR XBOX ORIGINAL GAMES WERE BROKEN :

If either you're using an xbox360 and your Halo 2 used to be compatible with your xbox 360 and no longer is ;

Or if your Halo 2 Disc does not work on your xbox360. but does work on any of your friends' xbox360 :

Then please scroll down to the VERY bottom of this thread and look for :

"SIDE TOPIC : "Xbox Original Disc Read Error (5) and the HDD."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Step 1 may have been the hardest/most time-consuming step.*

Step 2: ) Installing Xlink :

When you arrive at xlink, they will ask for you to download Xlink first. Download the one that's compatible
with your computer.

To Download Xlink : http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/?go=download

(NOTE: This install is a One-time step)

Step 3:) Creating an account :

After you downloaded Xlink ; It will require you to create an account. Look in the near top-left of the screen
and you should be able to see the option labeled "sign up".

there are plenty of decent usernames for you to pick from.

(NOTE: This sign-up is a one-time step)

Step 4:) Firewall Setup (Optional)

I assume depending on your computer, your firewall may read that your own xbox is trying to hack or potentially do harm to your computer. However this is not the case, Since installing Xlink and running it to your console does not give you viruses.

Unfortunetly, for some ; you may have to disable your firewall to run xlink. Fortunetly for me I did not need to do this step nor will I ever need to.

Now go to your xbox Console.

Step 5 :) Testing out System Link

- Start up your Xbox / Xbox360 and insert your Halo 2 disc into the tray.

- in the Main Menu, Select your profile without signing into Xbox Live.

- Then click on "System Link" And leave your xbox idle on the screen that says "Create new game".

- Now go back to your computer.

- Click the Start Menu in the bottom-left corner of your computer monitor. (It's the only green button.)

- You should see a program in the left pane that is titled : "Start Kai"
(When I set my cursor on it,it shows: "Location: C:\ Program Files\ XLink Kai)

Note: You MUST ALWAYS click on this program from the start menu to play system link.

- When launched from the Start Menu ; It will pop up a navagation menu. there should be three options at the top
of the screen :

GENERAL CHAT, GAME ARENAS, and METRICS.

- Click on "GAME ARENAS"

There will be a pane on the left-hand side displaying a variety of consoles.

NOTE: MAKE SURE you click on the console "Xbox", EVEN IF you are running the game on your xbox360.

- Look in the left pane again and click on "First Person Shooter."

- Look in the left pane again, scroll down and click on Halo 2.

- Look in the left pane one last time and click on latin America. (Since that's all who plays anymore.)

AND FINALLY!!!!!

- On your xbox the screen should start appearing to load all the hosts to your System Link Menu.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TIPS, INFO, and SUGGESTIONS:

*If you are from anywhere but Latin America and are suffering from lag, then stop joining games and try hosting a game and have players try joining you.*

*There are several times where you can get full 16-player parties a day and I think its a fun, great experience. Unless the population was in your region, then your parties would be constantly full of players, around the clock.*

*Don't even think of trying to play Combat Evolved because the population is dead on that. people I guess rather play the PC edition or Custom Edition instead.*

*The navagation menu may show inaccurate readings of the in-game population. But there are approximatally 500-1000 players on Halo 2,depending on occasion.*

"I wish more people from the US used XLink to run System Link because the population is mostly of players from South America, causing them to lag out of my games. which is the only reason that would keep me from playing System Link. But if only hundreds of players from the US played system link, then so would I."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WINDOWS 7 & Xlink Compatability

If you attempted to download this for Windows 7 and when clicking on the Xlink shortcut.

You may have gotten the error saying : 'Unable to initialize the PSSDK Library.'

If so, there is a simple way around this.

- right click on the shortcut.
- click on 'properties'
- click on 'compatability' tab.
- click 'run this program in compatablity mode for : Windows Vista.'
- click 'apply' and then 'ok'

Your Windows 7 should now be compatable with Xlink Kai.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SIDE TOPIC : "XBOX ORIGINAL Disk Read Error (5) and the HDD."

If your Xbox at one point used to be able to read your Halo 2 Disc, It may not your disc ; It may infact be your Hard Drive.

Hard (Disk) Drives : (Known as "HDD's")

When you upgrade your hard disk drive for one that is larger, you most of the times use a new hard drive that you bought in the shop. Now, when you put this hdd in your xbox and you try to boot up with your chip off. It gives you error 5. Why you ask? Well I will try to explain it simple. The original (also called "Retail") hard drive is locked by MS. Why did they lock the harddrive? Well if it wasn't it would've been more than easy (in the start of xbox hacking) for hackers to change content on it. Thats why MS locks it. It is just a security measure. This locking proccess uses information thats on the motherboard. The "Lock" on a xbox hard drive contains information that is based on the harddrive itself and the motherboard it came with.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS : (HDD)

Q: But my xbox used to be able to play XB Original games and no longer does, why?

A: You may have switched your original hard drive out for one that holds more gigabytes. causing you to lose access to your
xbox originals.

Q: How come ever since I purchased my xbox 360 from my friend, I have never once been able to play an xbox original on my
console that I purchased from the Xbox Marketplace?

(Example : Fable from Xbox original)

A: It is important to know about the history of your xbox. And especially how many people have owned your xbox before you have. The person before you or even the person before that person may have swapped hard drives in the past and you may have never even known about it. Unfortunetly, purchasing an xbox is not exactly all about "showing one a CarFax."

Q: I swapped Hard Drives with my best friend six months ago. And I can play all my games especially Left 4 Dead & Battlefield Bad CO: 2

A: Please take note that the 'code error 5' is only for xbox originals. switching out a hard drive with a friend has no effect on xbox360 titles. So if YOU DO NOT play xbox originals and/or never will ; you have nothing to worry about.

Nice post it is unfortunate there is no way for bungie to sticky information about this.

Then again maybe I would rather not play with people who can not figure this out without being walked through it.

I would post information about XBC while you are at it so this thread is taken more as helpful than advertising.
