I'd take it from the fact they distrubute it for absolutely free that they still own it. But still, don't Microsoft have it too? The have Durandal on XBLA.

Bungie owns the rights to Marathon. I don't know how Durandal on XBLA exactly came about.

"There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe."
Gospel of John, 1:1-7

What about the port made for the iPad? Was that authorized by Bungie? Because it says its made by some random guy, but it's free. (Of course he gives Bungie credit for making the game) Although its free, there are in game purchases for a re-skinned Marathon and a cheat mode and etc.

I think that was apart of the Aerospace project.

No, a man named Danial Blazek or something worked on it solely and then when he showed it to Bungie, they demanded 80% of the profits, so he made the game itself free.

Not related to Aerospace at all, contrary to popular belief, Bungie had basically no involvement in the technical aspect of that port.

Bungie released the Marathon series' source code to the public a while back, which is why the iPad version is free, as well as PC versions like Aleph One.

I'm not sure how the XBLA port came about, but it was developed by a studio called Freeverse, who may or may not have some former Bungie employees.

I'm guessing that Bungie still owns the rights to the franchise, since they recently renewed the trademark for Mararhon's logo, but I think it's unlikely that they'll make another game anytime soon.

Well then, does this mean there is possibility's of a new Marathon game? Or even including Bungie's new IP into the Marathon universe?

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

Bungie made Marathon before their partnership with Microsoft, so I guess so.

I know it's been answered, but yes, they still own the rights.

Marathon was made in the 90's, long before Halo, and then it got open sourced when they got bought by Microsoft and we now know it as Aleph One.

The iPad port was made by Daniel Blezek and published by some company named Soli de Gloria or something like that.
