I can't find anything to reference the anti-gravity boosters, but Drones come from a planet with twice the gravity of earth. They are capable of lifting a man off the ground.

Page 148 of the Encyclopaedia.

Bestiarum implies they have excellent flying skills in Earth gravity, which to mean hints at no boosters.

It is funny, because Halopedia is wrong again despite there being a source for them use. The Bestiarium does not use those words whatsoever. Here is what it says:

On thier Homeplanet, the Yanme'e are capable of short bursts of limited flight. In gravities less than 2G, they become much more agile and competent fliers, should there be even minimal atmosphere against which to beat their diaphanous-looking yet sturdy wings.
The word "excellent" is not in there. What the Bestiarium says is common sense that in lower gravity environments mobility increases, but notice how the degree of their improved flight is not described. Given that earth has 1G, half of Palamok's 2G, is is logical to maybe assume that their "limited burst of flight" only becomes twice as long. If they want longer, they need to use anti-gravity boosters.

  • 08.23.2011 11:15 AM PDT

Okay, going off that wording, it still sounds like in a earth-like environment, they are capable of flying decently.

"Agile and competent fliers" implies to me they aren't restricted to short, low-level flying.

It does not say that they become "agile and competent fliers", it says that they become "more agile and competent fliers" from a state where they can only fly in short, limited bursts. However it does not say how much more. It is fan-made speculation to state anything in place of the word "more" such as "excellently" or "decently". I would guess that their capabilities only double for 1G environments, but it is clear that 343 Industries/Bungie have their own idea about how much "more" represents and it is obviously not much with the whole anti-gravity booster thing.

Do you see those blue rings on their wings? That is the anti-grav pods. So the concept has been there since at least Halo 3.

Whoa hold up, forerunners are 12 ft tall???

1. Where did you find this info?

2. They looked slender in halo legands.

3. There ment to be the sister race of humans (i think).

I think you are underestimating San'Shyuum because we have (almost?) only seen very old ones.I think there was in cryptum something about them being muscular an beutiful? ( those were the previous prophets of course.)

Cryptum, Born's mom is 4 meters tall.

Um, the prophets you saw in Halo 2 were a pretty good showing of the race at the time.

I'd assume when the forerunners deevolved them they became like that.

Lrn2readCrypytum.

Bornstellar's mother is four meters tall. Also, Halo legends is third in the canon list which cryptum is actual novel which it is second so it overrides legends.

That and as the Forerunners in legends are only shown around each other... Hard to tell their height no?

Contrary to belief, Grunts are actually fairly strong, able to:

- Carry and wield a Fuel Rod Gun
- Carry and Wield a Brute Spiker or Plasma Rifle
- Carry, mount and deploy a Plasma Turret
- Ripped apart a human Private Osmo limb from limb in Halo: Contact Harvest

Jackals and by definition also Skirmishers can carry and wield some of the potentially heavier weapons, such as the Carbine, Needle Rifle, Beam Rifle and Plasma Rifle. I'd imagine they'd be about the equal of a Human in combat, possibly stronger, as they do prey upon lesser species such as Humans and Grunts. Skirmishers are probably also pretty strong.

Drones can claw a human to death, or even bodily lift an armored Marine into the air, although this may be with the aid of their antigravity propulsion aided flight.

Elites and Brutes carry some of the Covenant's heaviest weaponry, and can both equal or even best a Spartan in hand-to-hand combat. Undoubtedly the strongest Covanent races, barring a Mgalekgolo/Hunter.

That really doesn't fit with what Grunts are established as. Especially a minor Grunt.
That's kind of falling under the category of bending the rules to do something cool in a story.

Forerunners > Mgalekgolo > Jiralhanae > Spartans/Sangheili > Yanme'e > Humans > Unggoy/Kig-Yar > San'Shyuum

This is correct except San'Shyuum in their prime would probably rank higher, I'm guessing at or above humans, but there's no way to know for sure.

This is why you need to read the books because it shows while they are cowardly they are strong. Hell a grunt would only be a few inches shorter than me and they are roughly as strong as a gorilla.

I'd put it as this:

Hunters>Brutes>Spartans/Elites>Humans>Jackals/Ski rmishers>Drones>Grunts

Of course it would vary between specific individuals. Like some members of some species may be stronger than those in the class above.

Grunts are actually stronger than humans, so are drones

It was about time someone said this.

Grunts are just barely shorter than us humans; approx. 5ft. 4in. I don't recall it exactly, but it's in the Halo: CE manual.

They're also very wide, with their arms probably being the size of your torso. Riddled with spikes, might I add.

To contribute to this post:

Forerunner > M'Galekgolo > Brutes > Elites/Spartans > Skirmishers > Grunts > Drones > Humans > Jackals.

I'm not sure about Jackals, they don't seem like they have the strength to even go against a human in CQC. Maybe if they were to pin it down and chomp on it with their "razor sharp teeth" but I've never seen or heard of them using them.

  • 08.23.2011 6:39 PM PDT

I think they've mentioned jackals fighting hand to hand with humans. Though that was in reference to them refusing to use a fully loaded assault rifle. Never said the victory.

Looking at it... Drones are a kinda weird area. They can lift up a fully armored marine and fly away, but I don't know if they could beat a marine in hand to hand...

that was an elite and I don't think the drones we see could actually fight a human. But since they are insectiods they should have other classes that could.

  • 08.23.2011 7:05 PM PDT

id say that a human could probably intimidate a grunt and scare it and it would be near impossible killing elites and brutes up close and personal but its happened in Halo wars forge vs. abriter and ODST when the rute chieftan attacks romeo and buck
