Subject: Visible trust bar and "trust number"?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

We know there is an invisible rank system in place but what if we could see it?

So, I thought of the trust bar and the trust number.

Both of these would ONLY be seen by you so even moderators can't see it.

The Bar would go up and down depending on infractions and history.

The Trust number is more accurate, almost like a credit score.

With the highest trust being 777 and the lowest being 0 (perma ban).

Would you want a feature like this as an indication of the Bungie.net's automated trust system if it is in fact compatible in these methods?

But that would take away the mystery and stop all threads speculating how it works.

I'm afraid I can't agree.

No as people will mass-post just to see what trust rating(s) go up and what would be the quicker way to get ranks.
Invisible is best, it makes the user guess as to what s/he is doing right/wrong.

Why not?

Why have titles in the first place?

But then they get banned for spamming the forums rather than letting things happen naturally. I'd rather have it stay invisible so it doesn't create any additional competition within the community. I'd rather not have people start comparing how many trust points they have.

Besides, I thought titles don't matter to you, Ken?

"I don't care if it's God's own anti-Son of a -blam!- Machine or a giant hula-hoop!"

I'm actually torn on this subject.

On one hand, people should be normal and helpful without needing incentives. And, this could lead to 'post spamming' by users who are trying to get their trust rating up.

On the other hand, this provides a tangible way to show that you are being active and helpful. It also increases activity, and the amount people trying to help.

In the end, things have worked out well so far, why change?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I think titles are interesting but I am more concerned with trust levels and what not that the titles themselves.

Well you shouldn't be too concerned with your trust rating unless you do something ban worthy. And then you'd know exactly why your trust rating went down. I highly doubt it's something the average user worries about.

I'd rather see the webteam's efforts go into something that is in higher demand.

Next question: what does trust rating matter to an individual user?

Titles are a visible representation of your current trust rating. They are one in the say. Saying you dont care about titles and then that you do care about trust ratings is, frankly, kind of hypocritical.

I just care about trust ratings and bans becuase I come here like every day.

Yeah, I am just throwing out ideas I think for add-ons on Bungie.net and seeing what you guys think.

Maybe we will hit a home run, maybe we won't.

But, what defines what is more important and what isn't?

Innovation is the key to survival and prospering.

Narwhallace Smithington: Gone, but not forgotten. Never approve of anything lil guy. <3
Furious George: The new -blam!-

What if it isn't a linear progression and can't be measured the way you want it to be? In addition, as it's already been mentioned sort of, wouldn't it just be a way for people to try and game the system?

Then this won't work, I don't know that this is how it would work but I am thinking it is something like a credit report where your actions would play a role in shaping the trust ratings rise and falls.

Exactly, it could be measure in chickens and not, in fact, trust points.

Bungie might measure trust skills in chickens?

Then it would be hard to make a visible model.

:p

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

I like it being mysterious.

If it was that simple, I'm sure it would be quickly abused.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

No. The only potential reason for a visible trust rating is to see what kinds of actions make the rating go up or down, and to then attempt to game the system.

Especially under your proposal, which would make the rating invisible to the moderators who would be the only likely people to make any other use whatsoever of this information.
