Subject: Visible trust bar and "trust number"?

I am the dark shadow haunting and lunking in the corner of your basement visiting B.net and asking for chocolate.

Posted by: spartain ken 15
I just care about trust ratings and bans becuase I come here like every day.

Yeah, I am just throwing out ideas I think for add-ons on Bungie.net and seeing what you guys think.

Maybe we will hit a home run, maybe we won't.

But, what defines what is more important and what isn't?

Innovation is the key to survival and prospering.
I don't know if just throwing around ideas is for the best. Honestly, your efforts on thinking of ways to improve the website would be better allocated to giving the user a more personal face on this website.

Some of the things Rooster Teeth's done to their website's very cool and I'd love to see some of the profile features on this website to an extent.

I think that's a better use of your time than thinking of ways the user can boost their ego.

A visual reading of a "trust system" would only encourage the user to post spam until they reach their desired title.

Titles don't matter, and neither should "trust ratings". It's the content of the post and what it contributes to the discussion, is what makes a good/bad member.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

There's a reason that we can't see it. People would attempt to "boost" their trust rating to get to a higher title.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Nobody said it's by post count. There are ways to "boost" many different potential factors that might be considered in trust rating.

But what would be different if we could see it?

The boosters trying to boost would be banned for spamming and everyone else won't be affected.

If anything, it could be a positive thing once people learn that spamming and getting banned might lower it.

No one. In fact, it was officially denied. Yes, it is something to do with it, but that's not the entire equation.

Ken, why are you so interested in seeing your trust rating?

I just don't get why you are trying to fix something that isn't broken.

I came, I saw, I conquered. On my quest to become Mythic. So all can be jealous of the amazing blue glow from my title bar. =) ~BlindChild~

trust bar means nothing to me

  • 08.22.2011 2:55 PM PDT

The purpose of the forums is to get involved in various discussions. We don't need to see our "trust" rating on the forums and worry about whether it will go up or down. I never liked the title bar/prefix system and wished it was removed entirely. We don't need people worrying about the color of their title bar on a website.

No, the fact still stands that once people see clearly what makes their "rank" or "skill" as you put it increase, they would be inclined to use this information to make their rank/skill/title increase.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing, as you could try to promote some good behavior, but in the end it would most likely benefit the people who would be inclined to abuse it (and those who already do).

I don't mind it the way it is. The only thing I would change/want to see is when you get banned, it tells you how long it will be until the ban effects have worn off.

I didn't know Ken was a politican...

And really, just no to this idea. I mean, there's no point to it.

Pointless

In my opinion.

But that would take away the mystery and stop all threads speculating how it works.

I am afraid that I cannot agree.

Bad idea.

Key

The point is, ken, that there could, very well, be other ways unbeknownst to us, as to how trust ratings are measured. If people had a visible bar when they got "trust points (chickens)" and went down when they lost "chickens", they could find out those other things and find a way to boost them up to Exalted Mythic by perfectly crafting their posts in a way that would give them maximum "chickens".

That sounds like a bad idea to me. If there are other elements to the awarding of "chickens" besides PPD and moderation history, I'm sure Achronos wants to keep it secret for a very good reason.
