Ignore my gamertag. It's actually Dragonzzilla.

Ever since I read that story I've imagined "What the Hell were those Elites?". Waypoint made a stop motion-comic portraying the Headhunters story. The equipment of the Headhunters Spec Ops were what I imagined it to be as well.

But I wonder what group or specialization of Sangheili Spec Ops were those guys? Could it be possible there were more? Such questions plague my mind.

The ones with the red Energy Swords?

I never thought of it being the actual elite military. That's quite interesting. But then again the elites didn't like bisecting forerunner technology in order for them to have the advance technology we see. Somehow though I don't think many in the covenant know about them, even the prophets maybe.

ok, this'll sound like a loop-hole, but bare with me and let the nerd work...

Those elites (im gonna code-name them "Assassins") are sent out to find and kill headhunters. Assassins will kinda act as a anti-body and try like hell to weed out any Spartans they come across. Now anyone who watched Headhunters and paid attention know that the headhunters' jobs were sabotage, recon, assassination, whatever. Just Suicidal jobs. So through my eyes, they are the covenant equivalent to Headhunters, and so they're own unit.

I'm guessing tho, that the mission to kill the two headhunters "Failed" (considering # of elite deaths to human) they abolished the said unit of Assassins and that would explain why we didn't see anything like it since that

Well, by the looks of it they were testing new Covenant equipment. Just like Jonah and Roland were testing new UNSC equipment. No need to label them as different ranks. They were still Spec Ops, just wearing heavily modified armor, modified equipment, and modified weaponry. Just like the Headhunters.

Seems like the most probable explanation.

Yeah that sounds probable. By the way there were two other headhunters on that mission nearby. It's slightly off topic but they could have survived.

Apparently they died in the book.

Maybe they were Hunter Killers?

Off Topic: Is the Carbine in this picture existed, would it be a Assault rifle variation?
