Subject: Crimson on Android

// Chapter
// My PC

2/15/12: Francisco Porras, I'll miss you. Rest in Peace.

Will Crimson be coming to the Android at all? I'm feeling left out and I know many here are too, since the Android OS has about half of the market.

I am interested in this as well.

Doubtful. Despite its market dominance in phones, Android tablets are -blam!- arse, and will continue to be so for the next year at least.

"I don't care if it's God's own anti-Son of a -blam!- Machine or a giant hula-hoop!"

Which platforms are supported?

All Apple iPad devices are supported.

So it looks like you're out of luck.

Hi I'm RT and I like to argue!

How about they make it a "Chrome app" and then everyone who can use Chrome (read: pretty much everyone that Bungie has ever sold anything to, ever) could BUY this game and generate ADDITIONAL REVENUES.

But, nope. They're going Ipad, and who can blame them? Those Ipads are so trendy, and thin too!

I know I saw that, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it's not in the works.

Generally speaking, Android tablets we've seen so far have all had some pretty serious hardware issues. Not enough to make them bad tablets, but certainly enough to curtail gaming on them. Plus, Honeycomb itself is a bit hit and miss. We're onto the third iteration of Honeycomb, and it's still a bit iffy, and the number of iterations has introduced fragmentation problems, exacerbating the disparities in android tablet hardware. We likely won't see the level of stability and hardware parity we see in android phones until the release of Ice Cream Sandwich, which is scheduled in Q4 2011, but will take at least another six months to gain any serious market share.

Say what you like about Apple's locked-in ecosystems (and I'm definitely of the opinion that targeting iOs is short-sighted and, frankly, a bit silly), but it does make early adoption and development a whole hell of a lot easier. There are no teething problems, no fragmentation, no instability, to quote apple, it does in fact "just work". The question is for how long will it "just work" well enough. Within a year or two the tablet market (should it still exist, which is doubtful, tablets suck), will almost certainly go the way of the PC market and the smartphone market, with consumers flocking to the open alternative.

LOL at that statistic. It in no way incorporates all the people with iPod touches or iPads. Android is not half the market at all.

...

iPod Touches are not phones. That statistic is about phones

There are LOADS more people with ipod touches compared to iphones. That statistic does not take them or ipads into consideration. And neither do any others.

Apple flog about 10m iPod touches and 7m iPads per quarter. They don't change market share figures all that much, bumping total device sales from the 107m quoted to 124m, with Android still toting 43%, and apple on a mere 30%.

Given the continuing acceleration in the rate of growth of android sales, it's only a matter of time until Android has absolute dominance no matter which way you duke the stats.

No, b/c it says "smartphones" which by definition will exclude iPods.

If you include iPods in the mix, the total number of iOS devices > Android devices. I already clicked off the site, but Google "ios market share including ipod" and you'll find results; relevant, timely results.

Why would they there are no Android devices that are similar to iPod Touches, sure there are android tablets, and yes they lack what iPod has done. Even though there are a -blam!- ton of iOS devices out there I'd say that, in total, Android is pretty damn even with the iOS.

If they have about half of the market, without even considering the other half of apples devices (ipad and ipod touch) then they can't mathematically have half...

You have to account for all the other wanna-be ipods (Zune, ect.) and tablets, that in turn would make Android and iOS percentage of the market a lot less than half.

Zune doesn't run android OS.....

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

There's only a handful of other tablets out there. No one really buys them.

I never said that,I have a Zune and I'm pretty sure I would know if it ran Android. You have to account for every device not just Android and iOS.

Just let it go, because I'm not continuing this, I don't feel like getting banned for going off topic.

Hardly any devices other than phones run Android and those that do are tablets that are extremely unpopular and cannot account for the sales of iPod Touches and iPads.

PORTAL in Reach!

Friend request me, I'm a friendly guy: Gamertag

Ugh I guess my iPod Touch doesn't get this game. And, I assume, since Marathon was the same exact way (free, iPad only), I doubt Bungie Aerospace will be getting me anywhere, let alone those who have something completely different.

With an 'iPad only' business model, they won't get far. And I'm sure they know that.
