I keep reading people comparing book dates vs. dates in the game. When Noble 6 dies, Reach isn't just immediately lost. I mean, the game's over, but there's still fighting on the planet after the events of the game, isn't there? It could just be me having read the book awhile back, but I don't remember it saying anywhere exactly how long the Battle of Reach lasted, just they day that Reach was glassed. And by that I mean, I don't remember any sort of specific time between initial Covenant invasion to the glassing being stated anywhere.
But please, I know a ton of you guys have delved much deeper into the canon and the expanded story than I have, so by all means correct me if I'm wrong. I would love an explanation.
The book would have us believe that the covenant fleet showed up on august 30th and for the most part obliterated the planet that same day.
The game would have us believe on Jul 24-Aug 14, there was a single scout ship attacking Reach, then the full fleet arrived late August 14th, and Reach was ultimately lost on aug 30th, with the last ship on the planet (Pillar of Autumn) barely making it off in tact, thanks to noble 6.
Some people try to say that both storylines fit together. Technically they can, but it makes very little sense if done that way. On august 14th, auntie dot said "60% of the UNSC fleet is en route to reach, eta 24 hours".
So they want me to believe that even though 60% of the UNSC fleet was already set to defending Reach on Aug 14, somehow the pillar of autumn and her crew was completely unaware of it until august 30th, as in the book? Even though the planet was already partially on fire at that time?
I strongly believe Bungie figured we'd be smarter than that, put 2+2 together, and realize that the events that occur in the books august 30th are now happening on august 14th, and then expanded and filled in to now span 2 weeks, ending on august 30th, thinking that a one day battle does not do the planet justice.
That still does not explain the POA being on Reach...or where master cheif was at that time, but I'm not saying bungies perfect.
