Those are probably, canonically anyway, the remnants of Gauntlet and Echo Teams. it doesn't exactly break much canon to be honest. We know Spartan-IIIs were getting pulled out for a variety of reasons and not every spot on the roster was filled. We have Headhunters and NAV/SPECWAR groups like Noble, not hard to imagine that is where the dead Spartans come from.

Yep. That's what I believe they are as well.

And honestly, we know Alpha Company had 300 spots open and they had more kids than 300. I doubt they would just let 100+ kids leave a highly-classified military installation. Who knows what ONI did with them. Most were probably washouts who trained future IIIs, but I doubt that is what happened to them all.

There are atleast a dozen of randomly generated dead Spartan's in that level.

After Jun mentions Red, Echo, and Gauntlet, and after Carter gets kinda mad Kat says "I hear what I hear, point is, why put Spartans on defensive deployments?"

They could easily be head hunter teams similar to Noble. Nobody expected Noble team to show up consisting of S-III's pulled from their suicide missions, but here they are. With such large class sizes in the S-III program it is very probable that several more teams were created.

Driving Hogs is what I do.

Who cares who they are, their guns helped me survive.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

Considering how Alpha Company had 500 recruits (of which only 300 made the cut), I wouldn't be surprised if said "washouts" would have actually been used as Spec-ops Spartans.

As for Red team, During First Strike, Three SPARTAN IIs were assigned to EVAC Admiral Whitcomb. So, Red's involvement is definitely canon.
