O_O you looked at your friends balls when "he" sat on your head O_o

Is there any way to limit the roughness of the public forums? I havnt gone on to one for a while because of the atmosphere, its kind of like what they say in court:"Everything you say can, and will be used against you."

It seems that if i go onto the optimatch forum, and note the weaknesses of Turf or something, then some kid will start typing endless profanities at me. Is there anything the moderators can do? Like make it so that if someone is going to post a reply to a thread that has potential to be very controversial, the replier has to pass it through a moderator, or make some sort of bot thingy that could do that? It just makes us feel like less of a community. same with all the group conquering and stuff. thank you for listening, i hope a moderator will reply to me.

I do my best to stay away from the zanzibar and optimatch forums. Keeps me safe and such. If I don't say anything there, then they can't use it, turn it around, and flame me for it.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Pass replies through moderators? If I were a moderator (which I doubt is going to happen anytime soon, if ever), I would quit the instant I had to do that. No offense, but that is completely infeasable and would couse our poor mods to never ever come back to this website. Bots can't read posts with any degree of effectiveness.

Posting obscenities is against the rules, and if somebody does that you should report him to a moderator to take care of it. It shouldn't really bother you though; it only shows that that person is an idiot because the only way he can think of to respond to your arguements is with profanity.

There are lots of chapters which are fairly close-knit; this forum is pretty good too; but I'm afraid that other than that, that's as good as it's going to get. Every forum has a percentage of idiots, and because this forum is so large, it makes the the number of idiots very large, even if the percentage is about the same as most other forums. The number of members also makes it difficult form people to know each other. You've been here for a year, and I don't remember ever seeing you post, and I've been here since before you joined, and you probably don't remember ever seeing me posting. There are still ways to get the community feeling, but I doubt you're ever going to get that feeling from the public forums (unless the mods decide to permaban a very large percentage of the current members, and Achronos doesn't allow any more people to join. Which is obviously never going to happen).

If you find a problem with something on the forum it never hurts to private-message a mod or ninja. They are usually pretty swift to respond.

But sorry if people have been jerks to you before. Some people really don't think before they post :S

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

Unfortunately, the maturity of some members cannot be said to be of the highest standard. This cannot be changed. The only suggestions i can think of is to 1) Listen to what the others here have said; simply report anyone breaking rules. and or 2) Ignore all the bad posts and focus on the good ones. (though reporting is highly recommended).

It really boils down to the fact that Halo, Halo 2 and other Bungie games (though mostly Halo series) has brought in a wide market and this market is large in size. It just happens to turn out (and no offence intended), that a number of that market are jerks on the forums. I think the best thing to do is report anything bad and try to focus on the good things here. There are actually many members who are willing to helpfully and maturely answer questions and comment in your threads and about your posts.

You know what they say, always look on the bright side of life *whistles*...

If your problem is that you don't know which mods are online, and you have no idea which ones to PM, MSN fixes this well. Usually (this is my situation, I can't speak for anyone else) when I'm on MSN I am avaliable to take requests. Sometimes I am playing Myth with MSN open (which is a little silly, but I only do it once or twice a week) but other than that MSN would be the best way to contact a mod.

lorenz@iinet.net.au, if you have MSN.

Alas, when you have public forums... the public comes in.

And we all know how horrible they really are.

... Or, he could use bnetmods@gmail.com with Google Talk, if he wanted to know when the mods who aren't the Great Pretender are on.

Nah, not many of us use GoogleTalk (every time I log on, there's nobody online). And I was giving my email so that once that was added, I could give some other mods emails out (with their permission).

I have talked to him two or three times on MSN.

I don't think he likes me...

I said that too and he corrected me by saying i'm not the only one :)

I usually get treated well in the Flood, Underground, and Septagon. Zanzibar and Optimatch are not friendly forums.

I know this is horribly off topic, but how exactly does one go about setting up a Gmail account? I keep trying to get them to send me an instant message with my invitation code but I have yet to see anything on my phone. I live in Canada but we share the same international code as the US so I don't see what the problem could be...

Any suggestions anyone? I didn't want to start a new thread for this, because it is a pretty generic request.

  • 03.27.2006 4:09 PM PDT

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

A bot could be used, but there are several problems with it. One, it's hard to make one that'll do the job well. Two, even if it does the job well, it'll probably make "mistakes," such that it'll think someone is flaming but they might obviously being sarcastic (which is tolerated on the forums), and a bot wouldn't catch the difference.

Like when the Soul goes berserk and randomly bans users... People will complain and Bungie would probably be forced to take it out.

Some advice, though: Don't go to those kind of forums very often. I usually hang around here or the Flood when I'm on, since they have the greatest potential to be less flamey (although in The Flood you do get a large amount of stupidity... but it's not always directed at a specific person). Also, if you're familiar with a lot of users, look at who created a thread and who made the last response to it before you click on it. For example, if a moderator shows up as the last responder and hasn't locked the thread, then it shouldn't be too bad to read, as far as flaming and stupidity go.

AGHHHHHHH!!! *Runs at jarell88 screaming*

edit: Wow, I feel so much better now... So um, yeah, does that mean they don't send text message invites to users anymore? It seemed to be the only way to get in on the main page, only they list a few countries in the scroll box.

And I live in Canada.

And Canada wasn't on the list.

*cries*

I agree. The mods do a good job and they took care of a very annoying flamer last night. Keep up the good work.

To avoid all problems in life. Simply adopt the " I don't give a -blam!-" attitude.

Stick with The Underground, The Septagon, and The Flood if you want a positive experience. Stay away from Zanzibar, Optimatch, and New Mombasa. They have all the flamers and/or spammers there.

Most of the annoying little kids who complain about their level go to Zanzibar. Then when you try to say that it's just a level, they freak out and yell. The Septagon is by far the best Forum, so surf there.
