Subject: 'Golden Text' - a curse or a blessing?

To be fair, he did try to tell them not to derail the thread.

He did.

But this only caused people to actually quote this, and then go off-topic and derail the thread.

It's this blatant disregarding of the rules I am focusing on in this thread, equally as much as ways to solve the problem.

1 marriage request.

All teh cookies.

1 huggle.

As an employee of Bungie he could of just warned/banned any thread derailing rule breaker.

The Gunman Division: Ace Gunman, xOmega Gunmanx, JT Gunman, xLost Gunmanx, (Op) Lone Gunman, Spade Gunman, Viper Gunman, Ysuran Gunman, BlindfireGunman, Angel, briskit1, dinjitsu2222, and Onobono. No idiots, please!

I'm confused... you are worried about an employee derailing a thread in an off-topic forum? Did I miss something here?

No dude.

I'm worried that every time an employee posts, regardless of what forum (maybe with the exception of the Septagon), any thread gets derailed, and everyone quotes the employee with scant regard for the rules of these forums.

How can you derail, that which has no direction?

Yes - it is an off-topic forum.

No - this does not mean you can post whatever you want in a thread with an existing theme.

I like the gold septagon appearing beside the thread; it tells me that this thread, unlike most others, may have an official response.
This.

When Bungie employees post something silly, it is almost always in an already silly thread. Or, when the thread has limited potential to start with, or has already reached its full potential. For example, your example. The answer to the OP's question, was already given, so not much more could be said.

If someone is asking a serious question, Bungie employees give serious responses.

However people, usually under the age of 18, will continue to quote Bungie employees and Mods, there's nothing we can do about that.

Removing the Septagon won't stop anyone from noticing the post and spamming the thread with quotes. Slow it down, sure, but not remove the problem.

And is that really worth it? Gold employee posts can often provide insight and answers on topics we all wonder about. It's a line to official responses and information that any fan would love to be able to find easily.

Besides, a bandaid fix like that is a silly effort towards stopping immaturity in a thread. Kids will be kids, the internet will be the internet, and ultimately it's a minor annoyance that comes with posting on an anonymous internet forum.

Its an incredibly vague topic that seeks a factual response to which nobody has a factual answer. There is no direction. The OP may have genuinely been seeking the answer to that question, but nobody has the answer. When nobody has the answer, you either get pointless bickering attempting to argue a perception of reality, or comical responses with no substance. Where's the direction there?

Why can't we put Bungie Cards here?

Employees usually post things that are worth discussing. When they post joke answers it is usually in joke threads, so there's no real problem.

Key

The only employees who ever post here in the Septagon are Urk, Acky Ack, and Honeydew. And I'm pretty used to them being around here. So I think if an employee ever posts here in the Septagon there isn't much of a freak out because its where all the Mythics and Ninjas and Employees hang out and we see it regularly.

But for them to grace the presence of the Flood, or even more rare, the Reach forum, is surprising at the very least for people who regular those forums. Therefore, freakouts are more likely.

It depends, if they answer a question it's grand, but sometimes it's just derailing.

The Risk Is Worth The Reward.
Cry Havoc And Let Slip The Dogs Of War.

As soon as A mod or someone from Bungie posts anything, the thread almost alwasy goes off topic....but then again, most threads end up off topic anyway so I don't think it really matters.

I don't know, I kind of like it. The septagon on the side and the gold text that is. When I look through the forums and I see a septagon it usually lets me know that the thread is worth reading , to a point. That point generally lies about a page after the employee posts something. Then you are right, it turns into a quote-athon.

I feel they should leave it the way it is though. Usually by the time an employee notices a thread and decides to post the thread is already massive and long beyond the point where new and constructive posts are being made.

They should be able to post as a normal user when needed, and as a an employee when needed.

That would be very good.
