Subject: Do you base your trust in a thread on username?

The Stig is dead to me
-Carrick

this is regardless of title. If you were in the flood forum and there was a thread made by XxXMLGPROSNIPEZ232XX(example) with a link in it. Would you still check it out?

I would personally be more likely to trust a thread by someone with a more normal, or original username(I'm only talking links here)

It is often easy to tell whether a user is an immature little kid in the flood if there username is as generic as the name above. but does that affect how you respond to the post?

This is only based on links. because know not every user with a name like that is so immature.

The Gunman Division: Ace Gunman, xOmega Gunmanx, JT Gunman, xLost Gunmanx, (Op) Lone Gunman, Spade Gunman, Viper Gunman, Ysuran Gunman, BlindfireGunman, Angel, briskit1, dinjitsu2222, and Onobono. No idiots, please!

I trust no link that anybody with any username posts.

I was a finalist :P

Trend micro blocks any dangerous links on my computer by sending me a warning to proceed or not. If this message shows, I do not go on.

i.e. I do click on links to see what they are about, but if Trend states it is dangerous, I do not go on.

I also do not click on links which are the only part of the original post like below, unless someone else lets everyone know (they take a bullet for the community):

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

This, unless they're people I've known for a year or two.

Not really OP.

Though I tend to trust links in the Septagon more than any other forum....

I don't judge the safety of their links simply by username simply for the fact that I can just scroll over it to see what it is.

Edit: Simply because it's more simple.

I trust links from those who have long titles, considering I doubt they wan't to lose it.

I still check them though.

It depends on how the link looked when I hovered my mouse over it. I don't really care about username.

i trusted you and those ended up being the worst links ive ever clicked :(

  • 08.26.2011 8:22 AM PDT

If you're reading this, congratulations. You've just pressed a button to find out a little bit more about me. Not that you will, but well done anyway.

I don't base my trust on username, I normally base it on the style in which the post is written. If it is a well written, properly formatted post, then I'm more likely to click the link.

Although I also hover over every link to see what it links to first, of course.

Why not stop by my File Share while you're here?

~Long Live Halo 2
Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

I check every link in the Flood.

Why can't we put Bungie Cards here?

I usually mouseover the link just to be sure, sometimes people disguise named hyperlinks as regular hyperlinks (eg. http://www.yahoo.com)

But yeah, it its a member I've seen around and trust I'm less likely to be suspicious.

WhtButterflyLiz: lol. Bring home bigger chikkinz, then, real man!!!

Suck it JoeSki!!!

I don't click on links where I don't recognize the domain.

But yes, I make judgments based off a user's name, posting style, spelling, etc. Saves me a lot of effort.

Honestly, this must be a joke. Child, listen, stop trying to defend yourself because clearly you are incapable of it. The only idiot in this thread is yourself, and trust me, it is obvious. So, how about you do as I asked earlier and log off, mommy and daddy wouldn't want you staying up this late.
-- Direct Control, BAMF

Generally, it isn't hard to spot bad links when you can actually see the address when you hover over it.

Still I usually don't bother, because its usually some stupid image or youtube video.

I trust a thread by the member's title bar. Anything below Mythic will not be trusted, it only makes sense.

Agreed. Regular users have nothing of value to contribute; I normally scroll through threads and only stop when I see a blue bar. I'm not even sure if we regular users could even be considered human.
