Subject: Do you base your trust in a thread on username?

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

I don't base my trust based on a template (for example, mine) because many users have simply had their profile so long they no longer want to make a new one because their user name is bad.

That said, if I recognize a user, I may be more apt to trust the content of the thread. Of course I would use title prefixes (Honorable, Noble, Intrepid, etc.) but OP said to disregard those.

Who can resist trusting someone with a username like mine?

Hey, that looks like an awfully heavy credit card you've got there.

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

It's not the name--it's the place. If someone named Tom Niceperson came up to me in some dark back alley and started to talk to me, I wouldn't trust him. The same goes for the Internet, if someone tries to get me to read something or click something, I don't trust them. It's not them, it's the Internet.

It is pretty heavy. You mind holding on to it for a while? Now that you mention it, this social security number is kinda bothersome too...

Mind if I just take your whole handbag, ma'am? I'll keep it warm if you like.

Hello! I'm Bunie.net's resident medical student (hell i'm sure there are more but I'm the only one who openly declares it!) I love my emblem, and I am periodically active.
I have a Twitter

I expect certain things from certain members, but I never judge a thread.

I usually tend to trust Mythics, Ninjas, and employees, but thats about it.

Yes actually. When I see someone like that post a link I wait until more than 1 person confirms it is safe, and even then at least one of them has to be more than a member. This is for links I don't recognize. It sounds bad, but it's just one way of me keeping me safe while online.

It all depends on whether or not that particular username has had a long history of bad threads. If the username is something that doesn't come across as "creator of bad threads", I usually read the thread.

I will read any topic, regardless of the OP's username.

If I see a thread that looks interesting, I check it out. I only notice the username afterwards.

Hello, I'm Mr AwesomePizza. I like pizza and I'm a man. Reasoning for the name. I like to listen to the classics of music, write poetry, play video games, and much much more. I'm always down for a nice chat, so please hit me up for some conversation.

I always check links before I click on them, regardless of the users name who posted it. Unless it's a ninja or employee because they would never link to a inappropriate site... Except maybe pictures of Stosh's mom, but that's okay.
