BACK ON TOPIC:
Who knows if they're the "Sentinels" we're thinking of? You're thinking of floating machines that try to kill you, or build the forerunner world.
If you've read more than ten books willingly in your life, then you'd realize that "sentinels" can mean something else. Those look like plain buildings that stand "guard" over something, much like you'd have statues "standing guard" over the entrance of a building.
You can't see the floating machines can you?
More likely to be personal crafts than anything.
With the machines in mind, the term sentinels can either mean the machines or the giant structures. As it isn't captalized, you could be right in believing they refer to the buildings themselves, meaning they do serve a specific purpose.
Rob are you aware that the word has several meanings? cobra just pointed out the the librarian called a mountain a sentential.
So anything extremely large could be called that.
That is exactly what I was agreeing too.
My first thought was that the description was calling the floating machines sentinels, as in the robotic security devices used by Forerunners. After reading through the thread, I now believe that the term is referring to the structures themselves. Therefore, considering the description singles out the structures, they must serve a specific purpose.
The term sentinel, should this be true, is merely detailing the structures' great size, not implying the buildings are robot death machines (however awesome that would be). I know what sentinel means, don't take me for a fool I am not.
