all i need to know is what socket your mobo is. to do this download THIS Install it and on the main page of the program look at the tab called package and it will say "socket ........." . tell us which socket it is.

edit - you need winrar or a program like it to extract the files for cpu-z. If you dont have it, you can download it HERE

omniosSpartan, I now have a very strong feeling that you did not build your amd fx 60 system, let alone own one.(especially with that geforce fx5500 comment a while back saying you got 70fps. even with the highest model processor out there, and the best ram, it would never reach that high, especially a pci card.)

edit - and besides, the athlon xp models are phased out. It would be kinda like buying a pentium 3. He'd be looking more along the lines of the athlon 64 3200+, which is supposed to be equal to intels pentium 4 3.2(3200mhz), hence the 64(bit) 3200. It actually preforms better, especially for gaming, and is also cheaper. He cant get this though because he doesnt have a socket 754 , or 939, so he has to get a socket 478. You cant mix and match cpu's and sockets, it would be like trying to plug a USB cable into a parallel port, they dont have the same number of pins, and structure.
