It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank god that such men lived. ----------- No Bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. (both by George S. Patton jr.)

Ever thought that it was done with a motion capture thing then 343 just placed the wall and door there as a place holder? It kinda looks to me that they weren't done with that scene so the marine might be crashing through the door in the final version.

So Marines can use Spartan armor now?

The models are placeholders. That is, if this scene makes its way through production.

So instead of giving it a more appropriate placeholder model of say a Marine, Army Trooper, or what have you, they use Spartan armor? Doesn't matter through, it's not in the game. Thank God.

That doesn't mean the power won't still be in on either the Chief or another character.

What is Halo then?

A sci-fi franchise grounded mostly in reality, but promising mystery and suspense. Not THE definition, but one I'm sure most folks would understand.

It isn't Star Wars.

Well put.

That video feels nothing like Halo and I do not trust its source.

Because we all know Slipspace travel is just as realistic as magnetic manipulation.

That's why I said mostly. It's sci-fi, I don't question FTL travel.

I believe "mostly" was his key word there.

Beat me to it.

That is a lousy excuse and all it tells me is that you're unwilling to accept this new idea. You don't question Slipspace, but you question these powers? Talk about selective reasoning.

Well, besides the fact Slipspace has been a core part of the Halo Universe since the beginning and has had explanations about how it works, why wouldn't I accept it?

Are you seriously telling me this?
So you're saying whether these powers are realistic or not is based off of how long they've been in Halo, and that they've had an explanation (you say "explanation" but the damn game isn't even close to release).

Hey, Force powers that somehow turn solid metal into liquid and levitate a fully armored Spartan have never, ever been hinted at in Halo. Had that been what Halo was about, seems a tad late. C'mon Ruby, get that twig out of your ass. Or not, if it makes you this defensive about anything 343 may or may not include, it's humorous.

I would say telekinesis is as far out there as telepathy and telepathy has been present throughout the Halo fiction since the introduction of the flood. Sure you could say it makes sense in the context of the Gravemind or Forerunners but that is just special pleading. And finally "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". Arthur C. Clarke's third law I believe.

The telepathy I understand, Gravemind is the embodiment of the last precursor and after absorbing billions of minds over hundreds of thousands of years, I'm sure such an ability would manifest itself. However, not even the Gravemind had telekinesis.

You really love to round the argument about, don't you? You're reiterating your first statement because you're unable to come up with a decent response to the one at hand.
It's called keeping the series fresh with new concepts. Don't like it? Then leave because nobody will miss somebody who can't accept new ideas, or at the very least, waits until the game is out before beginning to blindly bash it.

I hope Ruby, you aren't one of the people talking about how the new trilogy had to have the UNSC because if not it 'wouldn't be halo.'

And I agree with cobra, why would they suddenly be able to do that stuff?

  • 08.30.2011 5:24 PM PDT

We don't know the full extent of a Graveminds powers because we have never seen a fully formed one. Also I would like to know where you got confirmation on the prisoner definitely being the last precursor and part of the flood.

Aimed at DeceptionCobra, I forgot to quote :S

Well, considering psychic powers outside of telepathy have never been mentioned or used in Halo and even the Forerunners didn't have such power, comparing Slipspace to the Force is like comparing apples and oranges.

Slipspace IS a core part of Halo, yes? It has an explanation to it, yes? The Force powers can have an explanation, that still doesn't make it what Halo is about because it isn't a CORE concept.

My, my... Cobra. Seems he is getting desperate on this, don't you think so, cobra?

First thing, Physic/Force power is not part of the Halo. It's mostly sci-fi with realistic settings. That's how it drove Halo to being most successful video game franchise. We don't want the Halo to become like Star Wars which it is fantasy sci-fi. We want Halo, not some gimmicky sci fi with unexplainable force powers.
