Irene was a media-hype, any well informed person knew that the storm would lose power over sea due to lack of resources and steady winds.
I was watching The Weather Channel, I consider myself to be one of the most well informed of all.
In all seriousness, is it not better to be overly prepared as opposed to being under prepared? I think so, and I think it's good that people took it seriously.
I agree that it's good to be prepared, and I agree it's good that people take it seriously, but I mean it was never a severe storm to being with. Sure, it did damage in many areas, but when I heard the comparison that CNN anchor JClansey did with Katrina to Irene, you could see it was less severe than people were expecting.
Yes. The media lives off of fear and uses it to keep viewers. This storm was not as bad as Katrina (although that didn't hit my area that hard) and it wasn't as bad as Floyd in 1999 (which hit my area pretty hard).
However, I look at it this way: The media may have gone overboard with their coverage of Irene, but at least they got everyone prepared for it and I would like to think that saved lives.
