He has a point, and Achilles is right. This thread is a joke, ladies and gentlemen.

Yeah, that earthquake really crippled the East Coast.

My beer can collection fell off the shelf.... it took me almost 10 minuets to reorganize. You better be more sensitive.

Aw, shucks. Your beer collection fell over? And it took you ten minutes to reorganize?! *Gasps* What about the people who lost all their belongs, including their home, and even family members to something like Katrina? Quit your -blam!-ing. Not to mention it takes people years to recover from that. Plus, they have to live with the mental stress. So, stfu.

It was an obvious joke, what the -blam!- is your problem dude?

Don't forget the six people confirmed dead from hurricane Irene and the houses crushed so far.

I guess the 6 people who died aren't enough for you to care, huh? For you to care it takes 100, or 1000, right? You make me sick.

They are only lame because they are keeping you from hanging out with The Situation.

The earthquake and the hurricane were both lame.
I'd attempt to follow this up with some other Jersey Shore related joke, but I honestly have no clue what that show is about. Maybe I can get a laugh if I just mention a "Snookie," an "oompa loompa" and the Douglas Fudge on the Wildwood boardwalk...

The Situation Room is a show on CNN anchored by Wolf Blitzer, so whenever I see people say "The Situation" I think of that...it's getting to be quite confusing now.

I, too, do not watch the Jersey Shore.

Oh, look, Ninjas derailing a thread! I'm glad that they don't do this often whenever one posts in a thread, that'd be a bad example.

You don't believe that the Jersey shore, the shore that I frequent quite often because I live in New Jersey, has anything to do with a thread about an earthquake and a hurricane that just hit New Jersey (along with other states, but I don't live in those states)?

  • 08.28.2011 12:43 PM PDT

You guys were talking about the show, not the geographical area. I was joking, anyway.

Wake me, when you need me.

Bungie made bracelets for major disasters. East coast is barely touched by all of this. You eastcoaster(s) are a bunch of babies.

Oh, c'mon. They're not used to this type of stuff. I agree that the Foundation needn't get involved, but don't insult the East Coastians, they're rather sensitive.

"Before you insult someone, try walking a mile in their shoes. This way, when you insult them, you are a mile away and have their shoes."

Irene was a media-hype, any well informed person knew that the storm would lose power over sea due to lack of resources and steady winds.

I was watching The Weather Channel, I consider myself to be one of the most well informed of all.

In all seriousness, is it not better to be overly prepared as opposed to being under prepared? I think so, and I think it's good that people took it seriously.

You want Bungie to do a huge relief effort for a minor category 1 hurricane? Irene isn't -blam!-.

I agree that it's good to be prepared, and I agree it's good that people take it seriously, but I mean it was never a severe storm to being with. Sure, it did damage in many areas, but when I heard the comparison that CNN anchor JClansey did with Katrina to Irene, you could see it was less severe than people were expecting.

Yes. The media lives off of fear and uses it to keep viewers. This storm was not as bad as Katrina (although that didn't hit my area that hard) and it wasn't as bad as Floyd in 1999 (which hit my area pretty hard).

However, I look at it this way: The media may have gone overboard with their coverage of Irene, but at least they got everyone prepared for it and I would like to think that saved lives.

  • 08.28.2011 2:23 PM PDT

Agreed. I think it was a field day for the media.

But the thing is that the hurricane didn't do much damage aside from knocked out power. A few people might have died from fallen trees, but not enough for a charity fund like for Katrina. The damage was minimal compared to that or the Japan earthquake

The earthquake however, that was pretty nasty. Here is a picture depicting the worst of the damage

And yes, I do live on the east coast and experienced both of these things

Hey guys, my ass shook while I was sitting on a step during that earthquake. I'm sure that caused a lot of emotional stress for anybody that may have happened to see it.

What earthquake?
Irene is a category one, it will do little to no damage at all. I never got anything for surviving three catagory 4 hurricanes in a row, so I see no point in anyone getting a swag bag for "surviving" such a small storm. I'm sorry that I'm being so rude, but honestly, you are overreacting.

Really, three cat 4's in a row. What year were those storms and their names? And alot of you know nothing of hurricanes/tropical storms. Worse part isn't when the storm comes to land, but afterwards. Storm surges, flooding, etc.
It was in 2004 in Florida.
It was Charley, Francis, Ivan (Category 5), and Jeanne. Over 3000 people in total died from those storms and OP being stingy and pushover is not amusing at all.

I was here for Francis and Jeanne, they struck in basically the same place 3 weeks apart. None were Cat 5's at landfall.
