Ever since the patch was applied, my 1.7 GHz machine has been running Halo extremely slowly, even locally.

It used to be one of the faster machines online. I can't even call it usable now.

If anyone else is having these issues, please let bungie know!

IT IS NOT BANDWIDTH. My game ran fine before the update.

It's as if someone turned my Pentium 4 1.7 into a P1 200. IT IS HORRIBLY SLOW.

Boosting priority helps a bit, but I'm saying that I haven't had a problem with ALL previous versions, including 1.0.4, and when 1.0.5 came out, it slowed me down.

My pings are between 80-120. Any latency issues here? I think not.

Video performance appears to be the issue. I am running ATI Rage. I've heard of other folks with ATI chips having problems. I don't think this patch was fully tested on enough ATI chips to release it. I say back the damn thing out until they can fix it!!!!!!

80-120 no latency problem? for a start you cant have a 80 ping on halo....

33-67 is no lag problem

your pings do have lag

a 1.7 is not fast, and it would hang at times playing halo as its not quite fast enough, i hav a 1.4 and a 5900 and i have noticed no difference what so ever, and the patch only added support for xp spk2 and fixed a security bug, nothing else

how do you know 80 can't be a ping?

My DS was fast before, and after the patch all the player including me started lagging!!! I even set my video settings to low and still had lag.

PS. I have a Dell, Intel pentium 4 proccessor, 1.89 GHz, 250 mb, and an NVIDIA Geforce 3 Ti 200 video-card.

I have a Radeon 7000ve. Yes i know its not that good but it supports halo, and i cant see invis people, so i just beat have the kids out there with their 9200's and what not. The rest of my computer is more than qualified to run halo. I own a AMD 2100 oc'ed to a 2.019 and stays chilled at 37 C. I also have 768 MB of DDR2700 to back up the processor. Ever since i got the SP2 update, i've been having problems with my wireless card. It seems that every so often i just randomly loose the signal or keep the signal but cannot connect to the internet. I still have my interal IP and gateway, but i just cant get connect to the internet, The only way is to restart my router (that has nothing to do with it) to aquire a new signal from the router to the wireless card. After seeing these problems, I hope for the best and see if my Halo will work for me. Low and behold, it doesnt, no instead it creats this lagg for me on my video card. with the wonderful 3 FPS's i get, i shut the game off. I look around the web and see that people are having the same problem. I've desided to take the time i have left over tonight and give Bungie a nice letter that i think speaks for all of us here with this problem. Enjoy.

Dear Bungie,

You have recently came out with a new patch for the Halo PC (1.05). The patch was to fix the problems with SP2 created by the Microsoft Corporation. In addition to fixing the problems with SP2, the patch (1.05) was to fix problems with video cards that had 256 MB Ram installed on them. This "hotfix" as you call it has actually become a major problem for most of the Halo community. In research that I have done, most people with the ATI chipset have experienced "lag" issues with their cards. This hotfix created the problem of lowering the FPS (Frames Per Second) between the low and high single digits. This is a major inconvenience for the community. Not only does it interfere with normal game playing experiences, but for the companies that host and hold Halo tournaments and ladders. Please understand what I'm trying to say is the honest truth and is not in anyway (form or fashion) of me being rude. I feel as a member of the Halo mob, that these kind of "oopsies" should not happen. When the creation of Halo CE came out, I believe to my knowledge that you were going to stop the support for Halo. Now that you have returned and redeemed your mess up, you have yet again "screwed up". The Halo mob hates to see two things with its community. One is that we hate to see anything that effects our gaming because of the creators fault. Secondly, we hate seeing the creators of a game give up on it because it didn't market or make the "scene" that you wanted to. As of right now, Bungie has successfully done both. To finish this letter I would like to let you know personally that you have not failed us completely yet.....merely just let us down completely. I'm sorry that you did not create a "hotfix" but just created a bigger problem for you. I hope you get this problem fixed and create a new hotfix that actually fixes Halo. Please take my words into thought as I am speaking for the Halo community.
Sincerely,
Casey Mullins (a.k.a UsD)

This one's to Cube:

Have you ever hit F1 on an MP game and seen what ping times all the players have? I have, and 80ms is probably average, since I used to only get 30 ms when I was on an OC-3 or better at Qwest. So for a home network, 80 ms is completely acceptable performance for IP.

What I and everyone else here are saying is that regardless of our network latency, our video performance has SUCKED as of the "hotfix". This appears to be ATI chipset related (due to our collective minds working as a team).

None of us are badmouthing the "gods" of bungie, yet we feel an obligation to report our issues to our software vendor. In doing so we are asking politely and respectfully that they take our issues into consideration as fixing one "group" of video issues, specific to this patch, has impacted others who aren't in this group, which is common when changes that appear to be NO BIG DEAL end up being impactful to the majority.

If you had read my first post in its entirety, you'd know that I am running a very capable machine, supported in every way by the game and had VERY acceptable gameplay in MP mode, as those of you whom I've had the pleasure of killing already know. I'm not saying that I'm the best there is, but I've been around for over six months and have finished the campaign on legend a few times.

Also, since I mentioned that I had the same exact issue while playing the campaign, how could you assume that bandwidth had ANYTHING AT ALL to do with my issue.

I'm really glad your machine isn't lagging. Does that mean that you won't kill me when I am?
I think not.

Therefore, thanks for your kind observation, but realize I really don't care about your non-issue. Rather, I care about those whose performance has been so severely degraded that their gameplay experience has been compromised by Microsoft and Bungie.

I really do thank you for your feedback, however. Should a new patch become available that returns my performance to normal, I can't wait to be on your team, so I can bow to you in first place. Or, maybe I'm on an opposite team, and the bowing is reversed?

Zep,

uh Got one, thanks!

I've opened a free online case with Microsoft, who ultimately will support thier game (with any luck).

I urge those of you who have had the issue I described to open a case with microsoft support (it's free and took about 5 minutes of my time).

Good luck all. Think this horse is dead enough?

You guys have probably already thought of this... but in the meantime (seeing as how patching a patch they are likely to take even longer to ensure that nothing goes wrong, or at least I would) you guys might give Custom Edition a whirl. You can play all the same maps you're used to, plus new ones. Also, seeing as how you guys are all on ATI architechture, you're likely to see a framerate boost from CE.

Anyhoo. Just a suggestion. Take it or leave it.

I don't notice any lag other then when people are banned from the server. Did any of you try updating your catalyst drivers?

I was talking to the owner of my server (NG servers) and he talked to a Bungie rep, and they said that it will be fixed within the next week to near future, and that was like wednsday/thursday. Hope is on the way......

Ohh, and I ran a few tests, and getting rid of SP2 helps fix the problem. There is no real reason to have SP2 except the "mighty" Microsoft says you do. Take this off my machine also fixed my wireless issue. Until i see any kind of work done and rdy for dl, i would suggest this for everyone.
