Primordium
I could not sit through another novel of Sangheili hubris.
Funny you say that because Greg Bear said the main theme of Primordium is hubris. So what, do you prefer a different kind of hubris?
The hubris that the Forerunners carry themselves with is far less than the Hubris that the Sangheili carry themselves with, but this is not exactly the point. The Forerunners justified it with "Humanity transgressed the Mantle" which I assume in the Haloverse is some rationally justified moral philosophy. That is worlds different from the Sangheili's point of view of "I am taller and I can fit more protein chains in my biceps therefore I am automatically superior in every measurable standard". It is a bit like calling Young Earth Creationists morons - that sort of intellectual arrogance I can stomach far more than racial hubris. So yes, you are right, certain types of hubris.
The Forerunners received the consequences of their actions - their civilization was completely destroyed and they saw the errors of their ways, a fitting life lesson I should think. The Sangheili however do not. They get away with it, they are fine with what they did deep down; they don't truly care and I would not be too surprised to see Humanity bending over backwards for them. And fans will accept it because they do the same.
