I think this is a pointless thread...

I would think so; one Fortress-class vessel is roughly of the same size and shape of all High Charity being able to release thousands of individual fighters AND dish out enough firepower to destroy an entire Halo installation by itself.

EDIT: It would appear I was wrong about the exact size, however fortress class vessels were still larger than any single covie ship.

Maybe not an entire Covenant fleet. The fleet could just surround it and tactically destroy it, but if it was a 1v1 fight then I think the Fortress Class would win hands down.

Well seeing as how in Cryptum it mentions that Forerunners had not only the ability use slipspace to travel great distances but that they were masters of it so far to even travel between dimensions and such I think they would roll right over a Covenant Armada. I mean, if they have the ability to travel into different dimensions and you don't, how in the hell are you supposed to fight that? Not to mention they can bend space to their liking and travel straight through objects like planets.

Platinum pwnz

I think that if a forerunner vessel with forerunners onboard came anywhere near the covenant they would go crazy and and the forerunners would pwn them

The keyship was also previously used by the Prophets to do hit-and-runs on the superior forces of the Elites.

I wouldn't say it could take down an entire fleet.

Considering Reach's Covenant firepower estimates (probably kiloton level firepower) and Cryptum's showing (IIRC one calculation I saw put it teraton per shot and makes ICS Star Destroyers look weak). I'd say it'd take it.

Actually, in Cryptum, we never actually get a showing of Fortress class firepower. We see Forerunner cruisers (of which four can fit inside a 1km long ship) open up on a Halo ring (which is where the teraton figure comes from), but the Fortress doesn't fire. Seeing as how the older models of Fortresses are 50km long (and the modern ones are 100km long)... well, if firepower scales, you're looking at DAKKA that makes the IoM feel inferior.

So yeah, I feel sorry for the Covenant fleet that engages a Fortress.

No, we see cruisers firepower, not picket-cruiser's firepower.
A fortress-class could probably take the whole UNSC and Covenant fleet a hundred times.

if i remember correctly the prophets were only able to beat the elites because of a forerunner ship(The one in the middle of high charity). when the covenant was first formed. I think I remember reading something about the elites almost beating the prophets but then the prophets got the ship working and almost destroyed the elites. covenant tech is more advanced by the time of the halo game but i think the forerunner ship could win out in the end

Later in the book a Fortress did destoyed a ring on it's own.

I don't know about defeating the whole Covenant fleet, but it could probably do drastic damage before it was taken out. How much is drastic to me? Well drastic in this situation would mean near destruction of the Covenant fleet.

Well obviously a fortress could easily destroy a halo ring guarded only by sentinels (and possibly enforcers, if the monitor of the ring orders the ring to construct them).

Onyx sentinels on the other hand, vs a fortress I'd like to see, seeing as they're learning and adaptive and have very strong shields, at least strong enough to be impenetrable to UNSC weapons like rocket launchers (as shown in ghosts of onyx)

... You don't know much do you?
Specialized sentinels designed for ship combat and hard light shields. Not to mention the firepower it would take to destroy a ring three times the size of the modern halos.
Oh yeah, those sentinels, some of them sacrificied themselves/deflected the shots from the cruisers that carved canyon-like gouges across the halo.

Cryptum.
The halos had defensive sentinels and hard light protecting them.
