Why not stop by my File Share while you're here?

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

I usually try to point new members in the right direction, but it's also fun to add some sarcasm to a post.

Because someone has a recent account creation date? So can alts.
This could in fact be one of my alternate accounts. See - hard to tell apart. There is no way of telling the difference.
-K-

^I was never actaully talking about the creation dates. I was talking about the way a user posts.

If a user just made an account 3 days ago, and posts in the wrong forums, that is likley mistake that a lot of new members make.

I like to help new members, but when they are blind (How the -blam!- do you miss "Game Forums" in the Community tab?) they get no sympathy from me.

1/2 the new members are already members making alt accounts to troll with. If it's truly a new member we can see it and try to help them out.

Want to know more about me? Check out my Community Joes interview.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

I agree with this a million times over. It annoys me to no end when someone is trying to be helpful but fails miserably. I admit, I was there at one point, so they have a little special place in my heart.

I usually just send the person trying to help a simple PM; I usually introduce myself then give them a few tips on being more helpful, and in some cases, show them how not to come off as an ass. For the most part, it works. In the few cases it doesn't work, the person is usually jaded by the amounts of so-called ignorance on the forums.

And I'm saying it's far harder to tell the difference than you realise!
Help everyone equally, but at the same time, apply the rules equally and the site will maintain an equilibrium.

^But even if the Alt.Trolls did break a little rule, but the joining date was just recently, I think that the Mod's should automatically give them a chance!

Blade - you're missing the purpose of site moderation.

It's there to stop people breaking the rules, and it does this effectively by working objectively and treating everyone the same.
If you start making exceptions to groups of people because they're new, or because they're old, or because they're your friends - the system fails.

Failing your test equates to not being able to drive for a period of time. Which is in essence the same as receiving a ban from the forums.

When you first joined her, did you automatically see or at least try to find the rules? I know that I didn't? Same exact thing with a considerable amount of people on the forums.

I did, though at the same time common sense should tell you most of the rules without the need to read anything. Things like...

Non-Reach related stuff like "what is your favorite show" doesn't belong in the Reach forum.

A question about Halo 2 does not belong in the ODST forum.

A topic concerning member titles or future updates to Bungie.net does not belong in the Flood.

A topic on Myth/ONI or any of Bungie's past games should go in Universe instead of Community.

It is not acceptable in any forum to harass/attack anyone else on the boards. It is not acceptable on any board to post links to shock sites or -blam!-.

The profanity filter exists for a reason; bypassing it is a no-no.

It souldn't take a member of MENSA to see that asking about hacking/modding a game on the developer's website is a bad idea.

I don't see much issue with how "harsh" the ninjas are to new members or with how "harsh" many of the older users are. I will grant that there are a few veteran users that are excessively hostile, though, but only a few.

^Okay. I picture it this way: [When you break the rules...]

1rst time you break the rules = let off.
2nd time you break the rules = Warning.
3rd time you break the rules = 3-day ban.

No. Break the rules and your lucky if you get off with a warning. Break the rules once, to any degree, and you have the chance of being banned.
