Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I only do that when they repeatedly make pointless threads.

Think of it from another perspective - you post shock links on the Flood and get banned, so make an alternate account to carry on.
It's a sensible rule.

^The same thing happened to me.

I was banned for something not even knowing that it was a rule.

I signed-into my other account, but not to post.

I was of course atuto-banned!

And like I said - it does the same to people who are signing in on their alternate accounts, who have the intent to do wrong.
Believe me, the more leash you give to newer members, the more people will abuse the rules.

Your fault, no one elses. You deserve to get banned if you break them. "I forgot" is not a valid excuse that will hold up here anymore than it would in a court of law.

I agree. I think the probably is that most people are just not interested in trying to be helpful. Sadly, this pretty much increases the amount of flaming and whatnot.

^A wrong forums post.

Thinking that I was in the Halo: Reach forums, I posted it here by mistake. I soon realized that I posted it here after the fact.

I asked a Forum Ninja to lock, in-which it was soon locked. But got a Ban-Notice from another Moderator stating that I was banned for 3 days.

I found this to be kind of -blam!-, considering that I was left without a Warning?...-_-

...<3 the Mod's, right?

Now I can almost (but not quite) agree with you.

My problem with this story is what when you admitted to your mistake and asked a ninja to lock it, the entire thing should have been over when he locked it. Done deal, nothing more.

For a different ninja to come by a few days later and throw in a ban on top of it...yes, that does seem a bit much.

Had he caught you first, it would have been fine to lock your thread and give you a short ban in one fell swoop, but he didn't; another ninja had already dealt with the situation a few days earlier.

I do feel that you were done wrong in this particular case; it should be up to each individual ninja on how to deal with a user that is breaking the rules and you shouldn't have to worry about incurring the wrath of two separate ninjas unless your thread was overly inappropriate (-blam!-, shock sites, etc).

Blade - you're missing the purpose of site moderation.

It's there to stop people breaking the rules, and it does this effectively by working objectively and treating everyone the same.
If you start making exceptions to groups of people because they're new, or because they're old, or because they're your friends - the system fails.

^I get what you are trying to say, but think of it like this, if I am in driver's-training, and I accidently crash, are you going to write me a ticket???...
Either that or you'll fail you test!

-K-

^Well, of coruse you will fail your test! But you will never get a ticket!

Are you serious?
OF COURSE YOU'LL GET A TICKET.
Probably be arrested to depending on why it happened.
Stop forcing your point and being so butthurt and realize that your idea is noble, but ultimately wrong.

My bad on screwing up the length of time, but I still have to disagree with the double jeopardy; when I used to work as admin for a few IRC networks, we had a standing policy to not interfere with another admin's business.

If I caught a user breaking the rules and decided to let him slide with a warning, none of the others would override me and ban them from the server and by the same token I let them handle the users they caught first however they wished. Only one server deviated from this system (well, two if you count the last one after it changed owners and I resigned) and I hated having someone else try and butt in after I'd already dealt with a problem. The only time someone else would jump in was if the user repeated the offense again.

If one ninja let you off with a light warning, that was his choice; problem solved, time to move on. A second ninja should not have the right to come back later and add a ban to the original verdict.
