I do feel that you were done wrong in this particular case; it should be up to each individual ninja on how to deal with a user that is breaking the rules and you shouldn't have to worry about incurring the wrath of two separate ninjas unless your thread was overly inappropriate (-blam!-, shock sites, etc).

^The thread was only a question, that again, belonged in the Halo: Reach forums.

And it was only a few hours later that I noticed that I had been banned. (The message was sent minutes before I logged back on.)
The only problem being, of course, that your story is completely made-up.

Oh damn.... And I thought he was being legit...

OF COURSE YOU'LL GET A TICKET.
Probably be arrested to depending on why it happened.
Stop forcing your point and being so butthurt and realize that your idea is noble, but ultimately wrong.
Cool it.
No need to start throwing around butthurt!

You have to admit though this is starting to become trolling.
Not really.
But the discussion has reached a natural end - yes. It's just going round in circles now.

^You being probably being the most respected Ninja to me, I don't want to defne you, but my story is not made-up.

I actaully don't know if it were to be a different Ninja banning me from locking my thread, but was just an assumption.

But my point was, was that I asked for my thread to be locked, it was locked. A few hours later, I recieved a 3-day ban notice only 3 horus later.

The 3-day ban was of course for posting in the wrong forums. That day I never posted in the wrong forums except for that one. And if I recall, if you post in the wrong forums once, you get a Warning, but I was automatically banned.

There's no linear system of warning/banning. Any mod could do anything at anytime as a result of any infraction.

And now I'm thoroughly irritated for being deceived into giving him any sympathy at all.

Anyway, blade, your trust rating probably just went down again. I doubt you'll be seeing that new title you want any time remotely soon.

It is an arbitrary system - although not as much as you think. There are actually some guidelines the Ninjas follow.

You must be misremembering something. You have never been banned for off-topic posting at all.

Feel free to PM me if you want to go over more specifics of your ban history, since it's off-topic to this thread (and I assume you don't want moderators freely discussing your ban history on the public forums anyway), but as far as this line of discussion is on-topic, suffice it to say that I can't recall ever seeing a new member banned solely for posting in the wrong forum. We usually issue one or two and sometimes three warnings before banning somebody for this.

As far as being nice to new members goes, Forum Ninjas tend to be far nicer and more helpful to new users than the community at large. I don't think this thread was directed at Forum Ninjas.

There is no set system of banning/warning. There is no chart somewhere that says "First Wrong Forum = 1 Warning". You could get any punishment for anything anytime. I'm not sure if I can explain it more than that.

Anyway, back on topic. New members should be given a bit of leeway but not much as far as Off Topic things go. First offence could be honest mistake. Be polite and fill them in on anything they're obviously not aware of (I.E. recent events such as the handing off of Reach or how to get to the Reach forums under the new site design).

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

Do what I do when I drive and someone's right up on me. Get in the middle of the road so they can't pass and go slow. Block them if they try to pass.

I also dislike when people just put "Wrong Forum", they couldn't have known that, and they learn easier if you point them in the right direction.

  • 08.30.2011 1:16 PM PDT

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

First, of course they would agree with a moderator over you. They have access to your ban history as has been proven in the past and they have no incentive to lie about something like that.

On top of that Foman is one of the mods I will actually commend on the job he does here.

As for the original topic here, I will inform users in a PM as to what they're doing wrong and help them correct that mistake in the future. I don't feel posting it publicly does all that much but bump a bad thread.

I agree, a lot of members seem to forget that they were once new as well.

If they repost even once more in the same forum for the wrong reason, my kindness starts going away.
It only decreases from there for said person.

Actually, I think it's better to post it publically because it might help someone else when they see your answer. Granted, the chances of that are pretty slim, but if it might help others at all, it's worth making public.
