Personally, I feel as if they had thier own ups and downs, and were basically equal.
Multiplayer
In Halo Reach, Matchmaking goes by quickly, but there are a lot of peple playing the latest and greatest game that have no skill. My main problem with Reach, is not the game itself, but the people I play with. Armor abilities were an interesting idea, but some of them, like Armor lock, are abused, and lots of people spam it. As you have said, everyone runs fpr the power weapons.
Halo 3 now has a slow matchmaking, but there are so little people playing it, once you get into a game, it does not even have to load, quick fun. It is more laid back then Reach, and has more skillful people, that enjoy classics more than the newest game. Equiptment I find to be a great idea. You use it once, and if you screw up, you screw up. However, I still miss sprinting and jetpacking, they should be available.
Campaign
I feel as if the Reach campaign was welldone, not spectacular, but it had its moments. I wish you could defeat the Scarabs though. It wasn't very personal with the characters though. They did not have that emotional grasp in a spectacular storyline.
The Halo 3 campaign was excelent, top class. I was amazed at how personal they got with the characters, and how the story unfolded. the covenent after the elites split, gravemind and the flood, The prophets, the Halo rings. They almost made it feel like reality. When sergeant Johnson died, it made you feel sorrow, most games cannot do that.
Weapons
Halo 3 had batter weapons than Reach. Why would they take out the SMG ad the Carbine? Replacing the Beam Rifle with the Focus rifle was not a smart move, even though I like it, beam rifle is better. They took deul weilding out of Reach, a letdown. The Carbine was just... amazing, deserves to be in Reach. Lasly, the brute shot, needs to be in Reach desperately, I miss it a lot. I can really care less about the Mauler to be honest.
So thats my opinion on both games, ups and downs, but both very welldone.
