I'm just stating that while Noble Team died defending a single planet, MC beat both Flood and Covenant in various other locations.

Besides, he has an awesome voice ;)

Yes, but you have to consider the fact that Noble team went up against a massive Covenant invasion force. The Covenant on both Halo's were scattered (not to mention also fighting off the flood) and the force that went to Earth was no where near the same size as the one that hit Reach. Master Chief definitely had it easier than Noble.

Not to mention the rest of the Marines and ODSTs were fighting off the Covies on Halo as well, even going so far as to capture a Covie ship infected with Flood. Luckily it was destroyed, but it just shows Chief didn't do it all single-handily.

The Prophets should have known better than to mess with the Elites...

But still, MC faced about the same thing Noble Team did, and came out alive. I know he didn't have to remain behind and fight to the end, but I still like him more as a character than Noble 6/rest of team

Not even. Chief didn't have as much of a threat on Alpha Halo Covenant-wise. The hardest thing he did was survive the Flood, but considering a sergeant made it almost as far as him in the Library, I'm not impressed.

No, but Noble Six had a team of spartans with him, wich I would take over marines any day.

(Of course, that may just be the fault of the more primitive AI technology back in Halo CE, 2, and 3)

Chief also had Cortana to save his ass multiple times on Halo. And Marines. And Guilty Spark for most of the time.

I'm pretty sure in the entirety of the Halo trilogy MC didn't encounter the amount of Covenant that were laying Siege to Reach.

Maybe, but remember, he is still alive, unlike Noble Team (Jun?).

And when you're dying he'll be still alive

And when you're dead he'll be still alive

Still alive

Still alive

Chief is alive because he is the marketable face of Halo, nothing more and nothing less.

Touché with the Portal reference, but does MC being alive make him any better than Noble?

I don't think so.

And while we are at it, what are we considering when we ask which is "better?" Are we asking who is the more effective soldier(s)? Or are we asking which of all parties involved is our personal favorite?

I have no idea. I just like arguing (lol that sounds weird).

I think it's personal favorite, because we can't really judge MC's skill as a soldier, since he's controlled by the player.

Well, if it's personal favorite then yeah I can understand people liking MC--he's pretty cool.

Sure we can judge, it's about canon events (game play doesn't factor in) as far as the universe is concerned Chief did those things whether you were there or not.

Hmm, I need to get DW to do an episode with this.

I would probably say Chief because he's a SPARTAN-II. As shown by games, II's can regenerate health (Athough that may be more the armor), have more of it, can jump higher, and are stronger. Evidence available upon request, I just don't want to say more than I have to.

That's Mark 6 armor entirely.

Chief, in CE (aka Mark V) was just like Noble Team.

Noble team sure got the job done, but it just goes back to Chief having one thing no other spartan has, and that's luck. I mean, Noble team's dead (yea yea, Jun got away). Chief isn't. Jorge was pretty bad ass though..

Everyone in this thread is missing the point.

Obviously noble team is handicapped since they have to deal with bloom.

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Obviously Noble Team.

Master Chief can be as good as he wants, but he's only one Spartan against other six Spartan's. And dont forget Jorge is a Spartan II, too.

He looses.

It kind of seems to me that Noble Team and Chief were fighting entirely different battles. Noble Team were much more on the defensive with Reach, battling back the enemy trying to essentially buy time for the planet and the people; whereas with Chief, even though Earth was invaded and there was a somewhat defensiveness about the fight, he was mainly on the offensive.

I think this is why many people think that the Chief out-performed Noble Team; it's all context. Noble Team were on the back foot for the entirety of the game, only manning offensive strategies when they were seeking defensive outcomes, with Chief, he defended certain key points on Earth and then moves into the offensive, killing regret on Delta Halo etc.

I think because, due to help from outside sources, Chief had the opportunity to fight offensively against the Covenant, and move more freely against them, he is seen as fighting harder/doing more damage than Noble Team; the latter I believe to be true.

On topic though, Chief versus an entire team of 6 highly trained Spartan IIIs and a Spartan II? He would lose, unless he had Cortana with him, then he may stand a outside chance. Chief versus 6? It's hard to judge, we don't really know anything of 6's previous engagements/combat skills, so it comes down to what we know...which isn't much.

I'd be rooting for Chief and I think he would have the upper hand, simply due to years in combat (especially if this was in some parallel dimention and after his encounters during the 3 games). That being said, it would probably be close and since we don't know enough about 6, I think it's somewhat pointless to speculate.

Also, can we give this idea of Jorge being HUGE a rest? He is probably only a few inches taller than Chief (citation needed here...) and is generally a little above average size for a Spartan. Just because he is presented as being a large, heavyweight character within the context of Reach and comparitively with Noble Team doesn't mean he is the size of Tartarus.

Just because a director uses a low camera angle on a character, doesn't mean they are 60 feet tall.
