I thought bad jokes were against the rules, anyway?
...Dear god I hope you're joking...
Yeah, you're new.

You do know that it is this attitude that stops Bungie.net from becoming that "Community".

Honestly, this elite "clique" of old members is what prevent newer members from being accept as part of the community.
You're never going to get acceptance by posting or quoting old memes that are from before your time and were never funny, in my opinion.

Know your place.

Know his place? Really? He's right ya know. Whatever community you're thinking of will never happen with your continued bashing of members who are "younger" than you. How dare you belittle anyone for having a different opinion than you and for just wanting to fit in. Who are you to tell anyone how to act or post?

My opinion is that I disagree with your post. You should stop judging people by their age on bungie.net.

True, bad memes just drive a nail into your coffin. However, it doesn't much matter since you won't be accepted anyway if you haven't been here for more than 3 years. There are exceptions, but from what I've seen, most of the people who have been here for a while don't form any real relationships with newer users. Yes, it is by all means your right to choose who your friends are, but I find it hard to believe that no one has joined recently who posses the qualities to gain respect here.

Ever since Aerospace came out, they seemed to be much more involved with the community. And from their most recent vidoc, didn't one of the employees mention something about their next game being more driven towards the community than the actual designers and employees themselves?

Whoo.

I agree with Skibur with the whole, "Foman's mom" jokes are getting old and excessively used, especially by new members who just throw it in whenever possible instead of putting it in some witty context, which is mainly because they're too new to have been here when the joke was made and/or to understand why the joke was funny in the first place. Some of the newbies are trying a little too hard to fit in.

But bad jokes ARE NOT against the rules, crazy Skibur, if anything these forums are the place FOR bad jokes.

Best thing to do, is to ignore anyone who thinks like that- I have learnt not to care what others think about me especially because of my account age and not being a 'worthy' member of the community. People who are like that are not fair members and it is that minority who ruin it for everyone else and how everyone else can get along.

People can do what they like. Won't stop me from having an opinion.

Of course you'd take offence to this, you started this Fomans mum rubbish... Oh, and Remember PM Duardo? Oh boy that sure was funny.

That's not it at all. I judge people based on how they behave.

If you're brand new but feel the need to post things you have no idea about in order to sound like you're "in" with the cool crowd, then you're a poser and you'll get no respect from me.

Someone could join tomorrow and have some sincere things to say and I'd respect him more than someone who's been here for 5 years.
On the other hand, if he spent his time trying to fit in through imitation or insincerity then it's going to be one step forward, two steps back in my opinion.

People on this site resort to trying to fit in, because they feel unwanted- a normal part of life. From your previous post, it seemed like a persons age on the this site was how you judged them and what they posted, my mistake.

Not true...

You'd be surprised at what it takes to become well known and/or respected around here.
It's not always being 'a really great guy' that does it either.

Look at spartain ken15 for example. He's carved out a place for himself through incessant posting and silly threads, but most people know him and even discuss him in groups and threads.

On the other end of the spectrum is Cryptic (fka CrypticGuardian) who is one of the most helpful, polite and high contributors of these forums, who has been here since 02, and yet his Bungie.net journey has been a very tough one.

In my opinion, join date is irrelevant when it comes to being accepted on Bungie.net.
There are so many forums with so many threads and a multitude of groups that anyone can find a place to belong.

This thread is balls.

OP: talking about bungie employees posting more on the forums to interact better with their community

current topic; Talking about members and how they've become well known, not to mention people saying 'fomans mom/pm duardo are old and overused'

They've been overused since the start. They're memes for crying out loud.

I'm sorry you were saying?

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

I actually agree with a lot of points that Skibur has made, something that doesn't usually happen, honestly.

There are ways to go about gaining recognition on the forums, some are more successful than others. The Spartain Ken15 and Cryptic are great examples of the ways to be successful. Ken turned inferior posting into an art form, got to respect the guy for that. And Cryptic is just an all around nice guy, which helped him on his way to notoriety.

The point is, if you're set on getting accepted into any clique here (which is silly in itself, in my opinion), then you've gotta do it in your own way. Quoting old memes or members just feels like you're trying to buy your way in, not the most tactful thing you can do.

I also heard the term "unwanted" tossed into the mix here. Really? Are you sure that you're not confusing being unwanted with people being unaware of you? Everyone starts at the bottom, unknown, untested, untrusted. In time (hopefully not by the aforementioned things above) you gain recognition, you become tested against people's perceptions, you earn trust.

Or perhaps I simply have a different outlook on how things
work.

OT: As for the employees posting more? I don't think it's so much that as it is that there's less of us posting. Though there have been more employees posting, but I don't think the level of activity had changed.

Your point? I don't believe he said that he was immune from being judged in the same light by others as he judges them. He just chooses to ignore what others think about him.

I couldn't call that being a jerk, I'd call it telling a hard truth.

And either way, acting like a jerk isn't really conflicting on the comment "I judge people based on how they behave.", if someone is acting like a jerk they will be seen as a jerk.

Hey this thread is going wildly off-topic. The concept we have to learn from these last few posts is that to not care how other people see you, and if people do judge you because of your account age and membership status, then they are the ones who are wrong (most people are better than this on these forums however).

We are who we are, and nothing will change that.
