Subject: Where Does The Profit Of Bungie Made Halo Games Go To?

I'm assuming that the employers are given a fixed amount of money to work at Bungie, just like a normal worker at most other places. After the game is released and sold, where does the profit (which there definitely was in the Halo franchise) go to? Halo 3 is to this day still selling games somehow, and I'm wondering if the Bungie employees might get a minute commision or something to that? Do any of you know where the profit goes to? Does it just go into making the next game? Does the money go to some main man at the top of the Bungie hierarch?

I'm going to guess the majority of it goes to M$ and some royalties go to Bungie.

Thus I refute thee

I'll give you a clue, new work place, halo reach engine, new title oh and snacks, lots and lots of snacks

So Microsoft get the profit in all Xbox games? Including EPIC Games (Gears of War)?

So it doesn't own the rights to all Xbox games? Just trying to understand gaming financials and complications.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

The information isn't public as far as I know.

I'm sure the division of ongoing profits is subject to a series of confidential agreements between the various entities who come together to sell the game (developer, manufacturer(s), publisher, retailers, and so on). But I doubt the details will ever be made public; these agreements often reflect trade secrets and business judgments that are considered proprietary and thus confidential.

Take your Lawyer talk else where, but you are most likely right about it.

Wouldn't sharing profit with retailers jeopardize a businesses financial position? If I had a franchise like Halo, I'd probably tell them to pay my company just to stock the game. I know there are several confidentiality agreements in businesses, but with most of them you know where the money is heading toward.

Well obviously we don't have access to specific financials here, so this is all hypothetical, but I think you're overestimating Microsoft's bargaining power. By a lot.

I'm pretty sure that the stores buy the games from Bungie and then sell them for a higher price. So it's not likely that a bit of money keeps trickling in after every copy bought by a gamer

I understand the enormity that is Microsoft. Next to Coke, they have to be the biggest company in the world. Can't wrap my head around money going to retailers though.

Most of it probably goes into the studio and the rest is the pay for the Employees.

Halo 3 alone sold 10 million copies alone, so I'm estimating about $800 million gross profit. Employees probably got paid about 20 million(at most). That other money has to go places...

Well, back then Bungie was still attached to Microsoft. So Microsoft received the biggest portion of pay, and Bungie just got leftovers. Bungie employees don't have that much money, lol. They're living good, but not that good.

Yeah I know that Bungie employees don't earn a Tom Cruise salary. I say 20 million would be to them and to getting equipment and advertising.

I'd love to see the contracts. Wouldn't be surprised to see MS get the lion's share. I would never want to negotiate with MS.

No, don't call me a hero. Do you know who the real heroes are? The guys, who wake up every morning, and go into their normal jobs, and get a distress call from the commissioner, and take off their glasses and change into capes and fly around fighting crime. Those are the real heroes.

I think they over pay the moderators with the extra money. I had never seen a million dollar bill till Foman pulled out one at Pax. He then made me buy him a beer, what a jerk.

RIP Logan ~B.B.

I'd assume it went towards offsetting losses from the Zune in MS's Entertainment and Devices division.
