Installed. When I run it, I just get a white screen, which is windowed. Eventually I'm told it has stopped working. Feature to enchance the gameplay?

But srsly, help.

Specs are an Nvidia GT 430, 4 gigabytes of ram, Amd X4 2.9ghz, and I'm running windows 7.
I'm sure you've already done this, but, its just a standard thing we have to ask. Did you run as administrator?

Yup, also tried different compatability modes.

I also attempted with my onboard GPU only, to no avail.

Hmm, then this might be helpful. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge on this will post as well. I'm not much use when it comes to this stuff. xD

thanks, trying all of that now.

Nope, none of that worked. However, it may have something to do with GFWL, as I tried to start up the marketplace and it crashed with no error message.

  • 09.01.2011 1:58 PM PDT

Got it working! It was an issue with my install of GFWL! Oh thank the lordy!

It's not working now. I played a little then exited, and now GFWL is crashing again.

Halo 2 is by far the best engineered game ever. Its is guarenteed to NEVER fail to run. This is the best game you will ever buy EVER. Your 20 bucks could not be spent better on ANYTHING.

All of your posts are extremely witty. It is guaranteed that everyone thinks you make extremely funny comments. You make the funniest comments EVER. Your time could not be better spent on anything other than commenting on every Halo 2 related thread.

How does it feel when even making fun of Halo 2 you're laughed at on the PC forum? To be honest, I originally thought that was a guaranteed way to "fit in". I guess you've proved me wrong.

Alright, the issue here is definitely GFWL, not H2V. I'm able to start up H2V, but only with an earlier version of GFWL. So I have to uninstall GFWL and reinstall GFWL every time I want to play H2V.

Also, I can't play multiplayer.

  • 09.01.2011 4:11 PM PDT

Never mind, things just got even worse. Now I have to sign into live to do anything in H2V, which means I've been locked out of playing the game.

If you can get it to work one more time make an offline GFWL account. It might work for you then. (No multiplayer, though)

Nope, it won't let me make an offline account.

I swear GFWL and Halo 2 Vista were ploys to make PC gaming look terrible to any Halo fan considering it as an alternative to console gaming...

I did all of that, but when GFWL was loading it appeared to crash again, with the window suddenly disappearing. But then the login screen popped up, and I sighed in relief.

Thanks a lot for linking me to that Btcc.

This is actually the stupidest thing ever posted on B.net:

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

Damn man. I am sorry you are having all sorts of problems.

I have been running this game since 2007 on a Dell Inspiron 1720 Laptop, however I have not played this game like I used to. It still runs great though, I just had to get a new internal battery and battery charger =)

Sad thing? I still rock Vista.

The other thing is that I am just a console kid that tried to relive and continue the Halo 2 Xbox Live experience through Halo 2 Vista. I will admit this and probably everybody that knows me on here knows this too. I was a huge H2 kid and I am no hardcore PC gamer =(

H2V's golden days were 2007-2008 and are far from over, but if you are ever looking to run some games on H2V...hit me up. I have not checked out the H2V server list in a while, but trust me when I say the games are probably limited =)

Just PM me with any times you had in mind and I wouldn't mind at all jumping back in the world of H2V and play with you.

...or my secondary GT is the same as my Bungie.net member name:
Super PolarBear. I used/use this only for Halo 2 Vista.

My main GT is o CrAsH MaN o (named after my favorite Robot Master of all time)...I think somebody on these forums might appreciate that? =)

All is cool either way. Good luck.

Thanks, I'll be sure to hit you up sometime. I had a ton of fun after I FINALLY got everything working. Played up to delta Halo, then I found a decent CTF server. It was Coagulation with Br's and shotguns, but it was definitely better than the other servers.

I really wanted to try out some of the BSP ports from Halo CE, but I couldn't really get Custom maps working, strangely. I did manage to get "Sandtrap" working, though. I also played the two new maps that were included, and it's clear that a lot of effort went into them.

Chatting with people. Didn't get many replies :|

The H2 engine does this BSP justice, along with the models originally made for it:

One more because it looked pretty :P

Should have known not to jump into the red light:

Dying isn't all that bad underwater. At least you have something to look at besides a wildly crouching spartan:

And that's it....for now :P

EDIT: Found the real "maps" directory. More eyecandy on the way.

Good to hear it works for you. I still occasionally play it, but mainly for trickjumping and stuff like that. My GT is TomiS222, be sure to add me.

On topic of H2V issues: I have stuttering in this game while VSYNC is on. Fraps says that the fps drops to 59 from 60 but frankly it feels like it's near 20 for a split second, makes smooth gameplay impossible without limiting frames to 30 fps.
