Subject: Do ninjas like forum games?

Steam - sircaleb11

PSN - TheSchnarf
Xbox Live - Cobalt Goldfish

Mein Name ist Caleb, und ich werde Deutsch sprechen FÜR DEINER MUTTER.

A lot of them turn into spam, so I wonder.

I doubt they like them, but they are allowed I believe, until they go too far.

ISU Cyclones!

I would think they tend to frown upon them most of the time since if they end up as spam far more often than not.

Especially in the game forums. Maybe in the Community or Flood forums they'd let one slide if it was genuinely creative or relevant to the community but I don't think we're gonna let the Flood run wild with stuff like, "You have X minutes to live" threads or a million variants thereof.

No, don't call me a hero. Do you know who the real heroes are? The guys, who wake up every morning, and go into their normal jobs, and get a distress call from the commissioner, and take off their glasses and change into capes and fly around fighting crime. Those are the real heroes.

There is no place for games here. These forums are for serious business only.

Then what are you doing on the forums then?

This has nothing to do with the topic, I am going to have to ban you.

@Geegs30

The main problem with forum games is that they don't abide by this rule:
"New threads should encourage a discussion among the community; please be mindful of that when you create threads."

Many forum games simply require the next poster to add on to the previous one, or just reply a number, etc.

Hello, I'm Mr AwesomePizza. I like pizza and I'm a man. Reasoning for the name. I like to listen to the classics of music, write poetry, play video games, and much much more. I'm always down for a nice chat, so please hit me up for some conversation.

If it's what appeals to them.
Remember that moderators are people to and that they can play games as well, they're not always locked up in the basement being beaten with a wet noodle you know. But yeah, some of them might find some of the forum games interesting.

Feel free to send me messages, please be willing to wait 6-8 years for a reply.

1-7 hours if you at least tried to make it readable.

Immediately if you are Yax, Telec, or legendary.

Never if you are mythic, you guys smell funny.

Their sense of humour is whipped out of them during their induction, that noodle leaves nothing more than a dry sense of sarcasm that is used to torment the innocents of bungie.net, but they try.

I'm a college dropout.

Well I guess it depends if the forum game yields humorous results or not.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

I despise them, personally. To me, forums are for discussions. There are countless ways to play games, and for us gamers, we can find outlets to practice our favorite hobby through consoles, PCs, mobile devices, or even tabletop or board games. There is no need to and no benefit in usurping a completely unrelated, unintended, and ill-suited medium such as a discussion forum to engage in further gaming.

Forum games do little to engage other users (I mean, you're not really connecting/conversing with your fellow forumgoers by trying to type your username with your elbow) and exist mostly as massive buckets of spam that push down legitimate discussions where people are actively talking, helping each other, humorously jesting with each other, and, you know, being a real community.

Regardless, a ton of users here (and even a couple of Forum Ninjas) love forum games, and I respect that even if I disagree with it. As a result, I'll only lock the forum games that do not engage or converse with other users at all, such as counting games, "last post wins" games, or the "type your username with your elbow"-style games that I mentioned before.

But it will be a cold day in Hell when you see me actually participating in a forum game.

Anyone can have the freedom of actually enjoying a forum game. As Foman said, some Forum Ninjas actually participate in them.

Me personally, I used to enjoy participating in them, but not so much anymore.

  • 09.01.2011 3:15 PM PDT

I think Foman summed it up quite nicely there...

  • 09.01.2011 3:19 PM PDT

Key

As is the case with 99% of these "Do forum ninjas this?" and "Do forum ninjas that?" threads, it really depends on the ninja in question. They aren't a unified force with a single philosophy on the workings of the forums and, as such, their ideas of how the forumgoers should coexist and the manner in which they should do it are as equally diverse as the Ninjas themselves.

Also, as Foman said, it depends on whether or not a forum game is obvious spam. I don't think there's a Ninja or Employee with mod powers on BNet that wouldn't lock a "Counting Game" forum if they saw it and had the time to do it. It all depends on the game itself and the Ninja who happens upon said game.

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

If Foman doesn't like them then I do.
