Subject: Has Bungie made an impact on your lives?

Never curse a failure. Learn from your mistakes so that if you are lucky enough to get a second chance, you can avoid repeating the same mistakes. And have a greater outcome.

I know, weird topic. It came to mind earlier when I was thinking about what led me to be a heavy gamer. (Not play until my eyes bleed heavy but play for a few hours here or there for recreational purposes)

Example:
I've loved playing video games since my dad bought us a N64 in '97 (I was 5 at the time). I would occasionally play games such as Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, and Goldeneye. But it wasn't until I got Halo CE in '04 that I really got into what you may call "The gaming community." Since then, I've played several hot titles and have even occasionally found myself on the competitive side.

About a year into this, I started to wonder about the mechanics involved in creating a video game and came to realized how much I enjoy creating landscapes and environments.

Its not like this was a major life changing experience for me but it was an interesting revelation.

Anyways, I'm just curious if any of you have experienced anything similar.

TL;DR
Has your experience with any of Bungie games or community impacted some part of your life?

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

It was the first cigarette of my FPS addiction. Now I can't quit. It helped with typing skillz as well.

Absolutely.

They still are.

I think almost every game by Bungie has given me an immense amount of enjoyment and Halo certainly continues to show how great an FPS can be.

I think, more importantly, Bungie's general attitude towards it's community has truly impressed me, reminding me that some developers still care about the people that play their games.

EDIT: OP's example is almost identical to my own experience with gaming; almost eerily so.

I feel the same. I have a high amount of respect for them for being so laid back and constantly interacting with the community. Not to mention all the charities they set up help those in need (such as the victims of the Haiti Earthquake and the Japan Tsunami).

From their website to their games, it has all greatly impacted my life.

Top 5 impacted areas of my life:
1. Education- for 14 years
2. Family- for 19 years
3. Friends- for 16 years
4. Part-time work- for 3 years
5. Bungie and Bungie.net- for 10 years

I think that fits well- bungie, despite being no. 5 in my view, has impacted severley on my life- in a good way of cause :p

If you don't know who I am, the feeling is mutual.

I'm listening to songs from the ODST soundtrack right now.

You be the judge on whether or not Bungie has affected my life.

Haha. I'm listening to Halo Theme MJOLNIR mix, while on the train.

They invented Halo, which has consumed unhealthy amounts of my time, though that's not to say I didn't enjoy it. I way deeper into it than (I'd wager) 90% of the player base. Now that Bungie isn't a part of that anymore, that makes the future of them impacting my life look pretty dim.

As far as their Myths and Marathons, I wasn't at the Mac party. Now they've got their Aerospace buddies making top-down steampunk pirate RTS iOS (five swings, five misses) games and some secret project that's so awesome that they can't even drop a hint other than OUTER SPACE. Not really doing much for me, currently.

In other news, I found a really cool-looking couple of mushrooms on the lawn today, so I took pictures. Why is that relevant? Because that to me was more interesting than anything that I know Bungie's currently involved in. Do I want to know what the ULTRA-COOL project is? Sure. Am I a presumptive fan of it because Bungie touched it? Haha. No.

When I think about where I am and where I'm going in life I couldn't say Bungie has had any noticeable impact in that direction. The places where Bungie has helped me is in my typing speed by playing a little too much Halo CE and my interest in video games. I'm a Nintendo gamer primarily but Halo has a special place in my heart.

Yep. Mostly due to Bnet, but yep all the same. I've come on here nearly every day for the last 4 years, and I have been part of the community for much longer.

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

Halo got me into online gaming, online gaming put me in touch with other people with whom I otherwise would never have met, some of these people helped me think about what I really wanted to do with my life, because of this I credit online gaming (and partially Bungie) with helping me get into college and become the person I am today.

Meh
