Subject: How long destiny?

We all know the rumors about 'Destiny', the apparent next Bungie game to grace us with it's warmth but how long has this been in the works?

After watching the Bungie panel at halo fest I was noted by something Chris Butcher said "I started with AI on halo 1 and then on halo 2 I did the online multiplayer networking and ever since then I've been kinda working on Bungies new project"

This new project, obviously the next game rumored destiny, has apparently been in the think-tank since the end of Halo 2, which was 2004.

This is an extremely long time for a game and has me wondering even more, WHAT THE HELL IS BUNGIE MAKING?

Also, does it lead this screenshot, which bears an uncanny similarity to this logo, the dead orbit symbol, to be more than just a coincidences?

Corn, Oil, and Wine... We need more wine...

If bungie's had a group on "Destiny" for all of that time, it kind of explains why Reach blew... They probably only had about a third of their team on it...

Do you know what kind of hat I'm wearing?

A party hat; you don't get one. An honor will this party be, a party in your honor, for your honor. Some of Tfear's personal guards are going to be there. You'll be introduced shortly.

Prepare to die.

The teams are probably overlapping since they work on different aspects of the game at different times.

The Bungie panel was quite interesting.

Hello! You may also know me as Ijnekono. How you have made your way here I do not know, but welcome. (:

If they have been working on it since Halo 2, I bet the sheer amount of thought and revision put into it will make it fantastic.

8/5/08 Bungie Favorites- NoEnd
7/1/09 Bungie Favorites- RECON Devil
9/9/09 Bungie Favorites- Champion
5/22/10 HaloCharts Favs- Prey

It it's an RPG or an RTS they'll have to spend a lot more time on it then an FPS. Especially an RTS with balancing issues and such.

That makes sense. In October 2007, just after Halo 3 was released, someone from Bungie gave an interview were they said that they had a small group working on a new IP, and that they had been working on it during the development of Halo 3.

Interesting to hear further confirmation of how far back they were working on things.

My name is Mark Mezzetta and I was a beta tester for Bungie's game Oni and Take Two's game Myth 3: The Wolf Age.

This is from Brian Jarrard, when Bungie partnered with Activision in 2010:

"How long have you been working on the new IP? How has the process been so far?

The initial seeds of our next universe began to take shape shortly after the completion of Halo 3. The majority of the development team began work on Halo: Reach while a small subset created Halo 3 ODST. Meanwhile, Jason Jones (Bungie co-founder) had a small core group begin to build the foundation for our future. Work has continued at various levels ever since but only in the past year could you say that formal pre-production really began."

Also from another interview:

"We talked with Bungie in 2007, when you divested from Microsoft, and Harold Ryan told us that the new IP was in the works even then. Is the Activision project that new IP?

It is the initial kernels of it started a long time ago with Jason a core set of people. In the last two years it has grown, taken on new life and become more solidified and we have hired more people and while the vast majority of our team is still focused on reach we have been putting more resources and energy into getting that universe fleshed out. We've had tremendous progress in the last 12 months."

However, Bungie president Harold Ryan in 2007 did state that they had this IP running during Halo 3 production, and given Jason Jones wasn't mentioned in the Halo 3 Credits, perhaps this IP begun earlier than 2007

I forget the thread where I read this but it said that Bungie began to actually work on the project in 2008. That could just mean coding and such since it sounds like "Destiny" has been on the drawing board before 2007.

Most sources seem to suggest that Destiny is actually part of bungie's final plan for global domination, wherin we, the bungie fans, will be absorbed into the game where we will be safe whilst bungie's army slowly disintegrate any resistance.
After this we shall emerge from our metaphorical cocoons as an immortal super race of beautiful, fluorescent winged people, ready to build a better tomorrow.
