And Ruby, it's funny how you now hate retcons, but just the other day you were for retcons.

It's called standards. What's more outrageous? Violating a game (Halo 2) or violating a silly little book that doesn't even have any merit (Halo Encyclopedia).


Both are outrageous. Just because YOU view the book as without merit doesn't mean it doesn't.


I swear, you act like that encyclopedia is the bible.


I treat ALL Halo novels as additions to the Halo lore. I'm not completely against retcons, but you can;t just willy nilly blast apart the books. But I wouldn't expect you to understand.

Funfact: there were brutes in Mombasa in the Halo 2 E3 demo, so I guess Bungie wanted to implement it but didn't have the time/resources at the time.

I like brutes as an enemy, but I would have preferred a mixture of brutes/elites.

The thing is, we never saw the section which ODST takes place in anywhere in the distance in Halo 2, which makes this hasty retcon a little less than believable, and only suggests that it's a lazy cover-up just to have Brutes, and not create a not even new AI script for Elites.


Oh, so them updating the design/shape of the ENTIRE city is just being lazy and not scripting the Elites?

I am un-sure if this belongs in the Halo 3: ODST forums, or this one?

In the original E3 Demo for Halo 2, you fly in with some ODSTs and make it into New Mombassa. As mentioned before, on that demo you fight Brutes, who are in NEW MOMBASSA. Now, that same exact beginning cut-scene can be seen in the final build of Halo 2, but, since bungie had to re-do literally everything for Halo 2, they had to change the story a little. And instead of landing in New Mombassa for an epic fight with the ODSTs and encounter the bruits. You instead get shot down by a scarab and land in Old Mombassa.

So, Bungie originally did have plans for you to fight bruits in Mombassa, but it just didn't happen due to story rewrites for the game. BUT they were there. As seen in ODST. It's really not that complicated to understand.

Nope.

The Elites and the Brutes have completely different AI characteristics. You can't just slap one model and hitbox onto the other's coding and expect it to work - it'd be like trying to cram a V8 engine into a Mini Cooper. They just don't fit.

Example: Brutes beserk when they've taken a certain level of damage. Elites don't; they evade into cover where possible and regenerate. You can't just 'add and subtract' certain AI characteristics as you please, this stuff is built from the ground up to cater to each individual enemy type.

You really don't know a lot about programming, do you?
