All MLP threads are just flamebait.

If the subject of a thread doesn't appeal to you, why even click on it? Just skip over it.

You know what else is flamebait? 90% of the Reach forums. If you don't like it don't respond to it. Why does it affect you? The only people it affects are those who get caught up in the flame war and, on certain occasions, are subsequently banned.

If we banned every hot topic trend that appears on the Flood, the forum rules would have to be about 3 pages long. If you don't like a certain topic, just ignore it.

  • 09.02.2011 3:29 PM PDT

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

I think we should set preemptive bans on trending topics, we'll start with banning all discussion in the flood. That should cover it.

I blame MURDUR for that future ninjas thread. That's what started it...

All MLP threads are just flamebait.

If that was the logic for banning a topic then we wouldn't have much to discuss.

how about banning the topic of banning?

No, the topic of what should be ban-able can be a relevant and thought out discussion, it just so happens that this particular instance is not.

The Joyeuse IP Formula

How about banning people who post flamebait MLP threads? If they're all flamebait, OP, then they're going to get locked (provided people actually reported the threads!).

That's why the rules were generalized. It covers everything, instead of just the specifics that people whine about. You need not worry if it's John Cena, MLP, Kitchen 8... whatever... if the content of the post is against the rules, it will get banned.

Personally, I think it's wonderful that we don't have to ban every specific fad.

It's a TV show, why should people be banned for discussing it?

It's not as simple as that.

Bungie has made talking about numerous other things a bannable offense. If I create a thread about porches I can get banned, as it creates spam. When a thread about MLP comes up, it creates flames and spam, so why are porches a bannable offense but ponies aren't?

Slay warriors in the forests, and on hire

Ban the OP then.

A porch does not equal a television show.

A television show has characters, dialog, art, and story, all of which can be discussed.

A porch is a feature on a house, which does not have much discussion value in itself. Repairing a porch, building a porch, relating a discussion you had with your grandmother about interstellar space while sitting on a porch, and other things involving a porch could probably have some sort of legitimate discussion behind them.

What discussion value does a porch possibly provide by itself alone?

EDIT: Here's the thing, flame wars and spam posts should be banned, but because some people choose to go out of their way and complain about something that other people would rather discuss does not mean that the discussion itself holds no merit and should be banned.

What type of wood is your porch made out of?
What color is it?
How many coats of paint does it have?
What's the size of your porch?
How many feet off the ground is your porch?
Do you have chairs on your porch?
A table on your porch?
What about a rocking chair on your porch?
Help! I need a porch repair man.
What design is your porch?
How high is the railing on your porch?

All of those are legitimate porch discussions, and there are thousands of others.

I once made a legitimate topic in the flood about my porch, and I got a 14 day ban for it. I don't know if the mod even bothered to read the thread, or if he just saw the word "porch" and banned me there on the spot. It sure felt like the latter.

Obviously the mod's reasoning when he saw my thread was that "Oh, this is a porch thread, *ban*."

MLP pony threads always devolve into a flame war or just flat out spam, why don't mods just flat out lock MLP threads as they do porch threads?

What counts as spam?
Below you'll find a few examples of what the term "spam" refers to. Keep in mind that this list is not complete and the Bungie.net Moderators have the authority to determine whether a post violates the "no spam" rule or not.

- Special characters, all-caps usage and attention-grabbing characters are all prohibited.
- Threads that only require a one-liner reply such as a number or rank.
- Misleading links.
- ASCII art.
- Petitions.
- Posts in any language other than readable and intelligible English.
- "Bumping" a thread solely to bring it back to the top of the forum.
- Creating pointless threads as part of a "mass" or "organized" spam attack.

Most of the questions you used to try to show how a thread about a porch itself would have any discussion value were all easily answerable by simple one word/sentence answers that don't seem to facilitate discussion.

Then again, I am not a moderator and don't know how they would treat a thread about how many chairs the user's porch has as compared to a thread about a TV show.
