I just played through ODST again. After seeing the legendary ending, again, what exactly could it mean? Did some of the Covenant shelter themselves in the uncovered Forerunner ruins? Is the planet in Halo 4 going to have something to do with them?

Was it to keep ODST opened for a possible sequel made by 343i? What do you guys think?

I think the legendary ending just shows how Truth found the location of the portal to the ark.

It looks much deeper underground than the actual portal is. Idk...

It's not Hip-Hop, its Electro.... prick.

The forerunner ruins were the foundations of the portal to the Ark. Vergil helped them figure out exactly what was going on in New Mombasa, and later Johnson leads the military operations in the surrounding area while the Covenant unearthed the portal. The purpose of the ending was to show a link between the actions of the Rookie and the current situation at the start of Halo 3.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

It was part of the entrance to the ruins of the Portal.

It could quite possibly mean more.

The cave man/monkey thing they found might have memories of Ancient Humanity that the Librarian bestowed upon him and then later unlocked because of current humans conducting research on him.

Or, the cave man could unlock hidden memories much like Chakas and Riser did on their own.

There's a caveman down there? I'm confused (I haven't read Cryptum)

I think the 4 energy drinks I've had today are getting to me. I'm confused - we're talking about the Legendary ending right? If so, are we focusing on the entire ending or the part where we see Buck and that monkey/cave man thing?

If it's literally just a monkey, then I redact my comments above.

But, there's always crazy things within the Halo Universe - if it were something more it could be a possibility. There's been weirder stuff in the books and canon in general then what I might be thinking of.

But we can just leave it as I'm not thinking straight today and I'm just pulling your leg. =X

Right, I want to clarify that the bit where Buck picks something off the head of a monkey is not canon. Halo has some crazy stuff in it, but it isn't stupid.

Lay off the energy drinks, my friend.

Definitely noted. =/

Recently, because of Cryptum I've been overlooking everything lately.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

If we take the whole Buck/Caveman thing seriously then we might as well say that the Halo: CE Legendary ending was a way of telling us humans and Elites would be allies in Halo 3...C wat I did dere?
