Does anyone know why Bungie is so intent on making science fiction titles? Because from what I've only heard through my small searches and finds, it's either games like Marathon or Myth that they pretty much only make. Now Aerospace, from what I've heard, is just another sci-fi FPS. Am I wrong about this, or is this a question a lot of people sometimes wonder?

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

Well you are wrong about Aerospace. It is, rather, simply a program to help developing gaming companies. The first game is a Sci-fi type game though.

Never give up, never surrender!

I like it. Every other developer seems to be following the trend of setting their games in the present.

Besides, Bungie are really good at making Sci-Fi games.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Yeah, we need some Victorian Equestrian sims instead of lasers and space ships from Bungie. Or maybe a pre-dynastic Egyptian RTS to determine if the southern or northern kingdom unifies under their banner gods.

Oh, or how about Bungie makes an Iron Chef adventure game? That would be...well boring but at least it wouldn't be sci-fi right?

Two panels, heroes of their respective worlds, fighting to destroy the enemy's homeworld due to the atrocities each has committed against the other with a bouncing square isn't Science Fiction? Man I must be out of it!

Racism isn't wrong if it's funny.

Well OP, perhaps the reason is that, outside of reality, there are only two forms of fiction.

1. Fantasy
2. Sci-Fi

Fantasy was the first fiction of the two, but that was much before our time, before film or video games, closer to the middle ages and Shakespearian times.
It was heavily used and is why so many of our classic fictional writings are works of Fantasy.

Now, Science Fiction is all the rage in the recent centuries. Why? Well simply because one cannot have Science Fiction without science, a study of our world that until the recent 1900's was not a very advanced practice.
Now that science in the 1900's and the 2000's is constantly changing and advancing, we are much closer to how it feels and the idea of what we can do in the future, making for great predicational stories, where as the idea of Fantasy and "magic" have become increasingly less credible with the advancement of technologies.

TL;DR
Everyone knows that magic is fake and that someday we'll go to space and that's cooler than magic.

P.S. And honestly, who wants to play another goddamn WWII game? Check please!

Oh yeah, NOW I remember what I heard about Aerospace...

But regardless, I'm just afraid that for Bungie's next game they won't have expanded their horizon very far aside from there not being any more Halo Rings or Elites and such.

Stop banning me please.

The two most common generes are scifi because of the endless possiblities with aliens tech etc... and middle ages games because of magic ect...

Present day games are as cool because it is present day which is boring

I'll have the roast duck . . . with the mango salsa.

Look at Assassin's Creed. It's a fictional period piece told through a man using our near future sci-fi tech. They can't even tell a tale without some sci-fi material in it, even though most of the game is set in the Crusades or Renaissance.

It makes stories more compelling. Be happy.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

They know Americans love shooting aliens.

This and sci-fi seems to be the most appealing setting for gamers. That, and the military style games (MW and BF).

*waits for Elder Scrolls fans to bash him*
