Subject: Who wrote the "117"?

The end of Halo 3, on the memorial... who scratched the numbers "117" onto it?

Just curious.

Hey, now!

This is officially either the greatest or worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars. I'm going with the former.

Probably some anonymous Marine.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

John crawled out of his stasis pod, kicked that cargo bay's ass all the way to Earth, scraped his name in, launched it back into space and then got back in stasis. He also picked up some new armour on the way.

Most likely Thel.

I actually think the arbiter did it; who knows

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

I always liked the thought that Thel drew out his sword, or took a knife, and carved it into the memorial as his own tribute.

This is the logical Halo canon explanation.

Yeah, a programmer did the texture. Because everyone knows that programmers and texture artists are one and the same.

That somehow doesn't seem like something he would do. It was probably a marine.

Why would Thel not honor him? He had developed a great respect for John over their campaign. Also, the "117" looks crude and almost child-like, as though whoever inscribed it was unfamiliar with the characters.

Thel actually did have a great deal of respect for humanity, unlike the ass who is Rtas.

Rtas actually respected them as well. He only understood the gravity of a Flood outbreak, and wasn't wanting to risk anything in light of his respect for humanity.
