Heroic is the default difficulty my friend, and it really depends on the situation. Like if you were in a conventional room, the Elite would probably kill me, but if it was an open field, I would kill it with ease.

10 Marines with Assault Rifles vs 1 Ultra with a Cuncussion Rifle. I can barely kill one on Legendary? What makes you think that 10 mindless Marines can kill one of those nasty mother-blam!-s?

^True. But the Marines are so mindless and only kill a few Grunts. Sure if they had maybe a Grenade Launcher or a Rocket Launcher they would probably murder the Ultra. But how many Marines do you see with a Rocket Launcher unless given one?

Lol, I think your just having some bad luck, because my marines can actually kill the Elites no matter what weapons they are using. 2 marines with assault rifles and 1 with the DMR can kill an Elite.

But I'm pretty sure this thread is talking about 10 marines fighting an Ultra Elite in a movie perspective, not in a video game.

Gameplay mechanics aren't canon. It was made this way to be more fun with harder difficulties.

Elites can be easily taken down by Marines or ODSTs (groups of them), depending on elite's rank/experience.

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

Marines. Easily. In a standoff, those Elites would fall in less than five seconds. I really don't understand the people who are saying the Elites would win. The Marines aren't stupid. If the Elite tried to pull over the top "ninja" moves, those Marines would drop its ass.

I immediately thought of this. (the picture)

And we see in Reach (Lone Wolf's ending) that ultra's shields go down from about 3 seconds of AR fire, so I think that while it depends on the situation, I'd say that marines/ODST's have a very good chance most of the time.

EDIT: And while this depends on the situation too, I'd say the Spartan, most of the time.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

4 ODSTs vs an Elite Minor (with sword and camouflage), a Jackal Sniper and a pair of Grunts.

Elites and Marines ducking it out at Harvest.

Outcome varies with the situation and individuals as you may see there.

Well an ultra is a special forces elite which in of itself suggest a good deal of experience and training. And elites aren't born into their ranks as they do not even know their own families after birth. according to the books a plasma sword caused I believe Master Chief's skin to blister just from holding it.

Going off the wikipedia page for plasma (mind you its a wiki page) "A plasma is sometimes referred to as being "hot" if it is nearly fully ionized, or "cold" if only a small fraction (for example 1%), of the gas molecules are ionized, but other definitions of the terms "hot plasma" and "cold plasma" are common. Even in a "cold" plasma, the electron temperature is still typically several thousand degrees Celsius. Plasmas utilized in "plasma technology" ("technological plasmas") are usually cold in this sense."

Humans have always had one saving grace, when backed into a corner we become unpredictable and elites tend to fall due to inflated egos. In 9 out of 10 times the elite will win, that being said its dependent on the situation at hand and luck is always a factor.

As for the experience of marine's fighting at Harvest, what difference does it make. While humans fought each other learning the ins and outs of space combat. The elites were off fighting 12 foot tall armor clad worms.

in the level long night of solace, while heading into the control room for the saber launch facility, there is an amass of dead army trooper bodies and in the next hallway there is one dead elite ultra with a sword, being kicked by an army trooper.

I think that it's suggested that the single ultra killed nearly a nearly two dozen troopers before dying

so you tell me.

It's the prestige that makes the illusion.

1. If one of the marines is the son of Rambo, yes
2. If an ODST crashes with his pod on the Zealot, yes
3. If one of the marines grab the sword of the elite ultra they
killed several seconds ago, yes

and at last but not least, if the Ship master is drunk and grabs a spartan laser he suddenly found underneath his bed and start firing it inside the ship, yes

Yes. I know that aristocrats are the only ones that use Energy Swords, but I dont think that only them. Not all aristocrats have the so called ''sword wielder gene''. Because almost all high ranking Elite's carry a sword with them (Ultras, Spec Ops from Headhunters, Shipmasters, and so on) The number of sword wielders would be way too low. I mean it's a nice detail, and it adds depth tot he Elite's backround and culture, but I for one, dont like it. But whatever.

The Visual Guide sort of helped in this area. It says that outside of the Covenant military, (As in the Elites own culture) only Aristocrats are permitted to hold them. However in the Covenant military any Elite of sufficiently high rank can use them, regardless of whether they are of aristocracy or not.

I remember it getting damaged when the Energy Sword pierced his upper shoulder. Not from taking fire at the door. But then again, you could be right.

Page 70

He took a couple of shots to the chest whilst forcing the doors open, stepped to the side to let them recharge but nothing happened. They stayed depleted.

Low ranking Elites being permitted to use an Energy Sword?

Aren't they allowed to use the Energy Sword?
If I'm correct, the Blue Elites (Sangheili Minor) is the lowest rank. Because I've seen them using energy swords.
For Ex:
1
2, the end of it

Most sources indicate otherwise such as the Visual Guide, Encyclopedia (Page 127: States that it is strictly forbidden for Minors to hold one) and the Halo 2 limited guide. (States that those of "ignoble rank" are not allowed to use them) We have also never seen anyone lower than an Ultra use one in the games themselves I believe, only in those trailers. But then they are trailers...

I'm either a fool or an inteligent man, depending on how sleepy or angry I am.

I originaly made an account on 07.27.2007 but I wanted to link my GT and made this account. Don't forget your passwords!

Depends what the elite has, what the Marines have and where they are.

EX: Elite has a sword on a plain and the marines have ARs: Mariunes are going to mow him down.

EX: Marines are all somewhat sperated but have radio connection, inside base, marines have ARs, Elite has sword: Elite is going to win.

EX: One or more of the marines has a sniper rifle, if the elite does not have cover he loses; if he has cover and a long-range weapon the elite could win.

Those 10 Marines vs an Ultra (with Cuncussion Rifle) and stronger armor would never stand a chance?

"Halo! Its divine wind will rush through the stars, propelling all who are worthy along the path to salvation."

I have to be bias, I am going for The UNSC Marines. Those who say The Ultra need to see that the UNSC has won more groundside engagements than The Covenant. All thanks to the UNSC Marine Corps and their elite ODST Battalions. The Elites are cool and all, but power is not all, the Marines use strategic and tactical intel to defeat their Covenant Adversaries. It works, they know the weakness in Covenant Shield Tech, hence why Pete Stacker used the Noob Combo to kill that Minor Domo that was about to decapitate his fellow ODST. Just look at Sgt. Forge, he killed a very strong and fearsome foe by just using his brain to gain the upperhand. Ripa was too stupid to realize that Forge had a Combat Knife, that he could use, since he was really close to him. Also in Space Battles, just look at Admiral Cole and Captain Keyes, brilliant strategists.

No way, they are way too fast and have more than enough shields.

Their shields can take about three seconds of AR fire, as seen in the Reach

I <3 Bungie...and HALO!

I am going to have to say that there is only one condition that would allow 10 marines to be able to defeat one Elite Ulta. This "condition" is if one of them were either Jackie Chan or Chuck Norris. Other than that, the 10 marines are pretty much at a loss...

  • 09.04.2011 10:45 AM PDT

The enemy diversion you're ignoring is their main attack.

I agree that it depends on the circumstances. For example: Pete Stacker: is a marine, Sargeant Johnson, for all intents and purposes is also a marine. Does anyone honestly think that if Stacker, Johson, with the help of eight other marines, wouldn't be able to slaughter an elite Ultra? And I don't doubt that there
are other marines with just as much, if not more experience than either of the two.

Depends on the individual soldier, Johnson could hold his own against an Elite and even the flood, Buck can hold his own against a brute and he survied Reach. It really depends on the Individual.

"Giggidy!" and "Thats what she said!" are the only two terms i need

As everybody has said it all goes down to hwho has what in firepower, cover etc, for example, if u guys played reach campaign (im asuming u did) the remember the part of the sabre mission where you are reaching the control room, all the marines in that control room have DMRs, ARs and shottys and you go through the door to the dabre and what do you find......a dead elite ultra, however that elite was in CQC with a sword and only got stopped right before the end of the corridor so your guess is as good as mine. The exact same principle applies for the ODSTs vs the zealot and vs a spartan, at the end of the day thres only so much you can do if ur at ten to one odds with a crappy weapon your pretty much screwed. Finally i doubt a scorpion or spartan laser could sufficiently damage a coveneant ship, for example in the final level of REACH u need to use a mass driver (basically a mini-mac) to damage (not destroy) a covie ship, and that only orks because its shields are down around the ships weapon because it is about to fire on the PoA

10 Marines? No Look at LNoS at the Launch station. A sword wielding Elite Ultra managed to take out 20 marines.
