Huh, I could've sworn by the time red team was engaged in battle at said Generator... the space battle had gone to hell and the supermacs weren't actually putting a dent in the attack.

If the Covenant had already controlled space(I.E. destroyed any real UNSC ship threats and the SMACs) then why would you try so hard to take out a generator powering a weapon that no longer exists? While they were defending it, the SMACs were killing ships, however, not enough to stop 400.

Because there was defenders there. Either way, when they arrived at the bunker there was a covenant ship LANDED. I doubt they guarded that generator for long enough for the supermacs to put out large numbers of ships post their arrival.

Edit: And please, note what I said. "The space battle had gone to hell." not "Covenant controlled all space."

One means "The battle was doing poorly at that point, with the UNSC losing ground." and the other means "Battle was over."

edit: Infact........ didn't Red Team actually only fight one engagement at the generators? Even then it wasn't that long before they used nukes...

Does this change the fact that the SMACs were taking out ships? No. If SMAC attacks aren't putting a dent in the Covenant, then what is taking out a Corvette and a Super-Carrier, not even scratching the surface? My point still stands. The S-IIs on Reach did more than NOBLE Team.

Let's compare actions.

Noble Team: Discovered Covenant scouting force, denied Zealot strike team valueable data.

Secured Sword Base, driving off a Corvette that was then destroyed.

Scouted, then assault the Covenant landing zone/base camp, revealed Long Night of Solace.

Secured Saber launch site, then secured Anchor Nine, then destroyed Long Night of Solace using slipspace drive and stolen Corvette.

Helped UNSC forces in New Alexandria, permitted at least 3, maybe more packed civilian transports to launch and get off planet.

Rescued Dr Halsey, then got data to Captain Keyes.

Red team: Arrived at the generator bunkers to find the first battle completely over.

Three went to deal with Covenant cruiser/camp, rest split up to perform various details around the generators.

Defended generators against the next wave of Covenant. Got overwhelmed to the point of having to use nuclear warheads to hold the Covenant off.

Was then split between the group at Castle Base, and the group with the admiral.

This is off the top of my head mind you, as I've not read the Fall of Reach in a while nor read any new ones. But overall... I'd say Noble Team did more significant things then Red team. The generator's were actually defended in battle a short while, doubtful it was even close to long enough to "Take out dozens of Covenant ships."

Edit: This doesn't prove one side is better then the other, but it shows during the battle itself, Noble Team did more to help humanities position then Red team.

Not to mention I CANNOT for the life of me bring to account any other time a SPARTAN has taken their victories to space and actually damn near single handedly DESTROYED a Covenant SUPERCARRIER other than Six and Jorge, they're the only two I can think of to have accomplished such a feat.

And First Strike doesn't count because that was Cortana's doing, not Chief's.
