What does everyone think about all the hype and people freaking out because the think chief has changed for halo 4? Is it too early to justify the complaints? What do you think of the Frank O'Connor statement? Is this good news or bad news in your opinion? Mistake to mess with an gaming icon like this or not?

Frank O'Connor being on the project doesn't give me much much assurance, his story in Evolutions was terrible.

"I will show you how a true Prussian officer fights!"

"And i will show you where the iron crosses grow..."

Bungie is no longer managing the Halo Universe. While our Halo-related forums and stats remain available, be advised that "official" answers and support about the Halo Universe (past, present, or future) are not.

Please discuss Halo 4 on 343's website. Wrong forum.

I simply wanted to know how others felt about the obvious changes and what they may mean about what 343 intends to do as they continue Bungie's legacy... will they stay true to the franchise or change TOO many things...?

Just out of curiosity, why did you think it was terrible?

All that means is that Bungie isn't going to be giving any answers on the fiction and story of the Halo Universe anymore. We are allowed to talk about Halo here. It would be more proper to do it on the Waypoint forums, but we do not have to if we do not wish to.

@OP:
I have every confidence in 343i's storytelling capabilities and their desire to remain true to themes and concepts of the overall Halo story. I am not so sure about gameplay and I am going to withhold judgement until I have played Halo 4. I have my doubts though after seeing how they're approaching the TU and some of the changes they're making with it. I am cautiously pessimistic. I won't outright judge the gameplay 343i creates until I've played it. I know whatever stories they tell will be good though.

The character, Baird, was unlikeable and it seemed like O'Connor used parts of the book as a love letter to Scotland or Ireland, I forget where he is or is descended from. It just seemed to exist as a continuation of "The Prototype" from Halo Legends.

Yeah, I can see that. I didn't feel much for Baird--he seemed rather plain. I did; however, enjoy the last scene where he slaps the Elite. He may be a flat character, but he sure had guts.

I can grant that too, but it seems you would need to be more than a testosterone-fueled Neanderthal to be an ODST and that is what Baird was, a Neanderthal.

Exactly, that description of him turned me off him before the story even began.

Personally, I always liked to think (I have no proof of this) that to qualify for the ODSTs you needed to be quite intelligent.

Was that the one that reasoned that Chief had a "memory chip" in his head that allowed him to know what to press on the holo-pad in "The Flood"?

No, it was "Midnight in the Heart of Midlothian."

Maybe I'm just forgetting it, but I don't recall that from any story in Evolutions. The only one even involving MC was Palace Hotel and I really don't remember anything about a "memory chip" in that.

Am I missing something?

It shouldn't surprise you. Ruby has this odd hatred of the books and since he/she doesn't read them, they wouldn't know.

Ah. That makes sense then. I thought I was losing my mind for a second there.

There are always a few out there who are premature.

Im excited about it... I've played halo ce on the pc and halo reach and I'm looking forward to the future of the series. However, they better be creative but careful not to ruin the series for those who have been there since the beginning... I hope they can capture the "halo" feel which i felt reach lacked a little of... However, from listening to panels on halo cea I believe they are approaching it correctly... they seemed to disown some of the unpopular changes made in reach and seemed as though they indented to return to things that made the game great in the first place rather than trying to turn it into every other fps out there... lets hope! Halo is my game because it has CHARACTER unlike some other games with little to no story line which acts only as an excuse to shoot stuff and blow stuff up!
