It's the prestige that makes the illusion.

Well,
Jules Verne describes 'Earth' Hollow.
Earth has life outside as well inside the planet.
And shield worlds work exactly the same.
and example is Shield 0459

See you on the battlefield.

Bungie took inspiration from a lot of preexisting science fiction. It only makes since that they'd take something from the OG sci-fi writer.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Greg Bear said all Si-Fi writers take inspiration from each other.

I suppose that argument could be made, though the concept originates with Dyson Spheres (and like how the Ark is a modified Dyson Disc).

While they are superficially analogous, the composition of Verne's Earth in Journey to the Center of the Earth is created by natural formation and essentially supports two separate, albeit evolutionarily different, ecosystems. This is different from the Halo's Shield Worlds as those are constructed systems which largely serve as protection against the Halo arrays.

While one could argue that the forms of both retain common characteristics (a sphere with distinct interior and exterior environs), their differences in construction and purpose far outweigh those few incidences of similarity. The relationship between the Shield Worlds and Verne's Earth is more coincidental than intentional; as is often the case with most works of fiction.
