No, because some people aren't going to want to go check the link to see it is legitimate.

This is Jane.
See Jane troll.
Jane trolls well.
Jane links things.
These are bad.
Watch Jane link.
Jane gets banned.
Watch the system work.

OT: It seems maybe this is because of this thread? If it is, it could be because a mod thought she looked underage.

But this happened 2 days ago and I'm not aware of a 2 day ban (I thought it was like 1, 3, 5, 7, 14 or something like that), so this may have happened on another account of yours. If that's the case you're breaking the rules right now by avoiding a ban.

I have been banned a while ago for posting a "suspicious looking link" when in fact, the link was totally safe and not bad.

Should that rule be removed?

You speak as if we have a choice. Bungie controls everything. You have no rights. Play nice.

SPARTANS! WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION?!

AOOH, AOOH, AOOH!

I'm going to have to start linking using ShadyURL from now on...

Haha.

Try avoiding using links which have certain keywords in them, like 'free download' and so on. Using TinyURL is also a good way of removing some of those 'suspicious' keywords. But for the best results, if you think a URL seems a little off, don't post it. Chances are, someone will read the URL, not click the link, and report it to a moderator.

RIP Halo 2: November 9, 2004-May 10, 2010
I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

Umm, John Cena is going crazy in the Flood right now posting very "suspicious" links. Obviously this rule can't be removed. But, moderators shouldn't be wrongfully banning you for posting a safe link either.

And I just saw the link you were talking about. You definitely deserved a ban. You posted a picture of a 12 year old, saying "you'd hit that." People like you make B.net look bad.

John Cena's gonna go down in BNet lore at this point. If he isn't bored by now, he never will be. I think it's hilarious how some people are afraid of him...

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

I am not required nor inclined to vet any link. If it looks shady, then I will ban accordingly. If I recall, there have been more than a few threads about "shady links" and I always use this metaphor.

If someone is stupid enough to point a toy gun at police, then they shouldn't be surprised or outraged when they get shot.

If you think that a malicious looking link is funny, then you should be able to share the lulz as you get banned.

That wasn't it. And FYI, she is 15. So am I. Problem?
LOTS of Bnet members are not minors. I happen to be, but that's irrelevant. Don't post pics of underage girls and turn them into jailbait.

The picture was totally not bad. It was of her face. Anyway, I didn't get banned for that.
In the future, citing the post you got banned for would help with people in telling you why you got banned and how to not get banned in the future for the same offense.

If the link truly was safe, simply appeal the ban.

Which, the link in question for this particular case, wasn't appropriate and you deserved whatever punishment you got.

What are we supposed to be discussing here?

"Nothing in the 'Verse can stop me."

If I posted a SFW link but it was titled "http://www.viruslab.com/" would you trust it? The site could be a completely legitimate site that tests for viruses but just has an unfortunate name.

Are you suggesting that it is the moderators job to risk their computer to verify a suspicious link? Like Recon made note of with the gun analogy, should the police wait to get shot before defending themselves?

If your link was suspicious that is your own fault, no one should have to verify your links here. You're lucky your ban was short and now you know what not to do. Count your blessings because this rule is going to stay.

Not only should the rule stay, but I think that, personally, a rule should be implemented that specifically bans the use of tinyurl and bit.ly and other url shortening websites. There's just no reason to use them. Sure they fall under the category of suspicious links but just to make it less indefinite and subjective.

Url shorteners are a dime a dozen. To try and stifle them is naive.

Now that I think about it your right. I wasn't thinking about them all. Regretted post is regretted.

But what if its obvious that toy gun is fake? I.E: A water gun being pointed by a model citizen (Someone with a rank)?

I really hope you're trolling.

Innocent teenagers and citizens have been killed by the secret service for pointing fake guns at the president. People trained to take out threats react on instinct. If they see someone with something that resembles a weapon, the react.
