In Halo CE On the back cover I do remember reading that Chief was the last spartan, and one of the best songs in Halo 2's ost was called "The Last Sparatan" so why then are many, many spartans stil alive or MIA (Like Actually MIA) during the Trilogy?

Thoughts? Or Did I Miss Something?

"Where ere thou hast been, here or in yon world manifest? Canst thou tell what is, or what was, or what is to come? No thing shall last. Yet there are some things that will never change. History is written in blood, yet are battles really lost on the battlefield? Canst thou tell me where thou comest, and where thou goest, and what is, or what was, or what will be? For everything remains, AS IT NEVER WAS."

John only thought he was the last Spartan. For like, a week.

And a song's name is hardly grounds for canon.

"officially", he was the last spartan. All the others had been marked as MIA after Reach fell.

Lol.

Basically everyone you listed is "officially" MIA.

Please learn what the "quotes" mean. They might not actually be MIA, but "officially" they are. There's maybe 2 spartans there that aren't,

And seriously, you think they wouldn't list a spartan that hasn't been seen since 2525 as MIA?

Sorry, you are wrong, because you fail to understand what I said in the first place.

And I don't think the spartan-IIIs ever "officially" existed,

I'm questioning why this is directed at me and why you're acting unnecessarily like an ass? I misinterpreted what jack0fhearts was saying, 'tis all.

Uh, no. I will give you Spartans 045, 112, and 137, as they are "status unknown." However the others are either active or retired, and are not MIA.

No, because even after Reach (and when they rescued Halsey and the Spartans John had actually gone back in time, if I remember,) the UNSC still knew about Maria-062, Victor-101, Black-One, Two, and Three. Probably more, as well.

I have my original pc copy of Halo CE right here, the word spartan isn't even on the box at all.
The xbox one might be different though.

Looking in the manual now.

Yuppers, it's as I thought.
"One ship, the Pillar of Autumn, escapes with the last SPARTAN-II and makes a blind jump into deep space, hoping to lead the Covenant away from Earth."

"You are the Master Chief - all that remains of a classified military project"

So, I guess you could argue that the original game was based on the idea that your were the last Spartan II, but at that time John and everyone aboard the Pillar genuinely thought the others were dead.

But if you want to get super technical, I'm 98% sure the Fall of Reach novel was released a month or so before the game, and as I recall it was established in that novel that other Spartans were still kicking, even if you are only counting Linda.
Someone who has read the book recently may want to confirm or deny this though, it's been a while, and it's hard for me to separate those original books in my memory.

To play or not to play....

He was but Bungie needed to expand the Halo Universe to make more money. Just joking.

Yeah there are many Spartans still in service. There are not many Spartan II's left in service and even fewer are actually in operation.

Not sure why MC is still considered the last Spartan.

Oh and as for Spartan III's well they don't officially exist to the public. So any references to them have been either removed from or never entered in to record.

At least that is my thoughts anyway.

From what I remember Linda was seriously injured and out of action as a result of the injuries. Even if she was patched up she would never be able to operate the way she did.

Several Spartan II's may still exist even without Linda in the equation. I often wonder if the people who wrote the book had much contact with the people who wrote the game. Still canon but I think the cannon was confirmed later.

Yes. Were I you, I would examine the Forerunner Crystal anomaly in First Strike. I'm 99% certain John ends up returning to Reach a period of time before the couple days on Installation 04.

He's generally not. A greater majority of fans know that John wasn't the last Spartan, and that aspect to the storyline was Halo: CE propaganda.

Kick start a craze

This might be a little off topic but as far as I'm concerned, Maria doesn't exist (I know she's fictional, I mean within the confines of the halo universe). No Spartan would ever retire.

Because the universe became expanded. You can't make money off Spartans if they don't exist.

Says who? not to mention clearly ONI is involved with that and i am sure she would be recalled if needed. Hence her testing armor.
